It would severely cut down on all of the noobs that will inevitably start rapidly converting every map they get their hands on and flooding the downloads section. Anybody with me on that?
I third that observation.

Unless they have proof of permission to publish it, and it has not been done before.

I think it should be heavily enforced. Treat it the same as ripping content maybe? That sounds good to me. haha

It was for a very brief moment when the Redux was released. WE had like three posts by Shadowkhas. I was amazed. lol.

so does it take longer depending on the amount of custom tags compiled into a map? Cause me and l33t have been trying to convert our zteam maps and its taking forever.

i have a theory...

if all these CE maps are converted to PC right?

could i take my server, upload these server maps into its directory and run a psudo CE server off of halopc?

example..

i have 3 maps in my server directory

-coldsnap
-hugeass
-new mombasa

i then give my friends these converted maps also. can we go through the lobby and play CE>PC map via halopc? this way i dont have to wait for long load times that i hated with CE?

just shooting the idea out there...

@pepsi:
It'd be just like connecting to PC server hosting a very complex rebuilt map. Maybe a SP->MP conversion with AI. As long as you have the same map it should work. I haven't tested it with dedi because I don't have access. AI syncing would of course be a problem. And yes it will eat up all your disc space. Gotta put those extracted tags somewhere. Btw, I tried coldsnap and it didn't work for me. Odd.

@choking victim:
Conversion time is based on the number of tags total, number and size of bsps, amount of tags that need to be replace (not the custom tags interestingly) and of course your computer. I convert most MP maps in about 40 seconds give or take.

this is what i was thinking also. so then i "should" be able to run my complete haloCE server cycle in halopc? with the converted maps for download? i mean like we both are saying.. if both ends have the map then you should be able to link up. well, if i injected my added my converted hugeass map to my halo server, went into halo with the same map in my maps directory would it be able to play it?

but i keep thinking of how maps need to be replaced with the original 18 stock maps halo provided for pc. like when people would make a SP>MP they would say.. "this map replaces bloodgulch" or something to that effect.

bottom line like i said in my first post...

this is a epic moment.

proof? it got tyler777 to get on a pc after months of bragging of being on a mac.

LMAO

It takes me forever. My computer sucks, lol, I converted a 60MB file in 1501 seconds, and now Im trying an even bigger one (71MB).

But it's well worth the time taken to convert to finally be able to play these maps. Every map I downloaded didn't work on CE, I would just get an exception error, but after converting it to PC it works beautifully.

Thank you very much for making and releasing this. It's probably the best thing I've downloaded. Ever. haha, maybe not, but It's pretty damn good.

Can utilities be put in outstanding?

How about making a new sub-forum named Outstanding Utilities and putting it in there. It seems appropiate enough.

Cause I was thinking the same thing, this definatly deserves some kind of recognition. At least a sticky.
