How to make plasma rifles glow

Post by Philly »

Making Plasma rifles glow - Intermediate

This tutorial is really quick and easy to follow:
Firstly, download (or make) a plasma rifle skin with light-blue areas that you want to glow. Inject the texture into HMT. A good example of a Halo 3 plasma rifle skin is here.

Secondly you need to edit the plasma rifle multipurpose map, so that all your desired areas of 'glowyness' are green. You can also download or search for one of those.

Once you have made the glowy bits green on the multipurpose, you need to edit the shaders. Open a map in HMT and go the [soso] tab. Find "weapons\plasma rifle\fp\shaders\luminous". Change the primary tag class to [senv] and do this:
Power: 100
Colour of emmited light- R: 0
Colour of emmited light- G: 1
Colour of emmited light- B: 1
Tint colour- R: 0
Tint colour- G: 1
Tint colour- B: 1

Material colour- R: 0
Material colour- G: 1
Material colour- B: 1

Ignore all the other variables, they're not much use.

Change the tag class back to [soso] and save. The close HMT

Open HHT, load the same map and under the [mod2] tab change the plasma rifle fp's first four soso dependecies to "weapons\plasma rifle\fp\shaders\luminous".
Currently, this has a side effect of dulling the plasma rifle, so it is less shiny, but when you walk anywhere dark with the plasma rifle, you will notice that it will 'glow'. Have fun!
For anybody still wondering where FTD has gone, here it is.

forgive me if this is a dumb question but how do you change the primary tag class?

EDIT: ahaha, ok I figured it out! =)

Anyone else have the same problem as me, where the glow stays white no matter what you do?

Stupid me. :o I forgot to mention that you need the latest 64-plugin pack for this, as TAZZ helped me stumble across. Also, some people find that it turns the plasma rifle white, though this may be related to computer settings.
