I was bored one day and was messing around with the UI to see what i could do. I came up with something of a cloud instead of space in the UI. It is kinda wierd, but it beats starind at a ring that i have seen too many times.

Ok, first thing: in my last tutorial, i showed the free program i used for skinning (DXTBmp) You need it unless you have something else that does the same functions. Download it here

Ok now open HMT and open bloodgulch. go to the bitmaps and scroll down until you see one named "sky\clear afternoon\bitmaps\clouds puffy light" click on it and click save texture. Save it in desktop.

Go to the DXTBmp and open the texture you saved. simply do to file, save as, DDS texture, and where it says DDS DXT 1, scroll down to DDS 888-8. Save it.

Now back at HMT, open up UI.map and go to bitmaps. scroll down untill you see one named "levels\a10\bitmaps\chryo glass" and highlight the list of numbers and letters next to "swap" (it should be E6190). Now scroll down further untill you see a small list of textures that all start with "sky\". now click on the first one and highlight the number series next to swap again. paste the one you copied earlier there and click save. DON'T CLICK SAVE META. Now do the same thing with the rest EXCEPT FOR sky\sky_x10\bitmaps\space.
when that is done, go to sky\sky_x10\bitmaps\space. click inject texture and load the clouds texture you used earlier with DXTBmp. Congradulations! you are done with HMT! Close it.

Open up HHT and load the UI.map. go to [scen] scenery and the only thing there should be scenery\Halo\Halo. click on it and click on
Mod2-scenery\halo\halo. click on the same thing above "swap" with the scroll down. Go to weapons\plasma grenade\plasma grenade and click swap. Close HHT, Open Halo, and Enjoy!

And you get this:Image

i bet that bungie was thinking of having the clouds as the background but they decided not to and put halo and space over it so when you take halo away thenit leaves their original work.
