When does the new dashboard update come out?

Some time this season.
They called it the "Fall Update", so the specific release date isn't yet known (I think).

Did you not bother reading anything about it? They made it very clear in their notices that it was not it.

Expect it in late October or early November. There are various reasons for this, none of which I am going to bother going out to find, but over time it has become a stronger case for this time frame. The first games to use Avatars launch in late October, and there was a Rock Band 2 ad on the dashboard that directly stated, twice, that it was coming in November. They've made their major infrastructure changes, and they've launched their teaser site. I'll estimate it will come between October 20th and November 20th.

Only if you both have a Live account and a Netflix account.

Does anyone know if both have to be in the same name? Say, for instance, I have my Live account and my dad has a Netflix account, can the two be used to use the service through Live?

You have to link your gamertag to your netflix account at netflix.com. So if u mean 2 live accounts 1 netflix account, then no it wont work. If you mean will Netflix account "TuralsDad" work with Live account "Tural" then yes that will work fine.

The latter is my question, thanks for the answer.

Guess this means I can't piggyback on other people's movies eh. I don't know why I thought that would work.

To be honest I don't really have a problem with this since you'll still be able to use your old gamerpics.

You just have to make an avatar, but you never have to use it...Its probably also a way for people to actually check it out before just hating it and ignoring it.
