So... Halo 4?

Our inside woman/man/thing got hold of some pretty exciting news.
News that Bungie was already hard at work developing what will be Halo 4.
Now we're told that this will be announced officially at E3.

It's not enough to go by for me to get excited, but what do you guys think?

I say this will be the final judgment for me.. Whether they should stop or keep going. You can already tell Bungie wants to milk Halo for all it's worth. I don't know, it could be good, it could be bad. I'll just wait around for E3.

If this is even real, I wonder what the story is going to be... They said Halo 3 was the last of Master Chief's story, right?

Halo 3 was the end of the story arc concerning Master Chief stopping the Flood/Covenant.

If it's as good as Halo 1 or 3, then I'm all for it.

That's too bad. I'd like to see a Battlefield type Halo game. Like imagining Bad Company but with Halo weapons, vehicles, players, etc. Nice, crisp graphics, somewhat similar gameplay. But with better maps and more players.

If I was making as much money as bungie is, I'd milk it too...

Bungie is an independent company now, I believe. After Halo 3, Bungie and MS split.

Microsoft owns the Halo name, they have to license it to Bungie for Bungie to continue to make games. However, Bungie is not required to make the game if Microsoft wants one, so it would be Bungie who is calling the shots. The original text was correct, the alteration was not.

Damn my incorrect alterations.
I see, now. I was a bit under the impression Bungie had the full rights to Halo, now.

Other studios can make Halo games though...

Under Microsoft's authorization, yes. No company can make a Halo game without Microsoft giving them the rights to use that name. Microsoft owns the Halo name, they do, they have to give permission for people to use it. There's no disputing that, it is a fact. I fail to see what you're trying to get at by pointing out that other companies make games. Everyone knows that. Microsoft has never made a Halo game, unless you consider Microsoft to be the company that made Halo 1-3, because they owned Bungie, but then you're just arguing semantics to try to win a trivial argument about nothing important, just for the sake of arrogance and desire to be correct. Microsoft is not the developer of any Halo game, they are just the publisher. Your point that other companies make the games is incredibly pointless, because that's common sense. Your initial correction was quite the opposite of a 'correction,' you actually made the sentence incorrect. You suggested Microsoft is calling the shots about making Halo games. However, if Microsoft asked Bungie to make a Halo game and Bungie said no, there wouldn't be anything Microsoft could do about it. Bungie is not under contract. Bungie has the ability to make a game or not, they agreed to make a game, therefore it was their choice, and their decision to make. Bungie chose to make a game, assuming this is true. Bungie, not Microsoft, controls whether Bungie makes something or doesn't. It's a fairly simple concept. Bungie makes game, Microsoft gives name. Bungie can not make game, Microsoft can do nothing to force them. Easy to grasp. Microsoft can't do shit to force anyone to make a game, they can't milk the franchise unless they plan to start developing the games first-party.

I highly doubt they will announce Halo 4 this early.

tl;dr Microsoft can't force Bungie to make a game.

Halo 2 was announced less than a year after Halo 1 was released. Edit: Actually 10 months after Halo 1 released, precisely how long it's been since Halo 3 released.

Echoes of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Ring clearer now.

What I heard about Halo 4 is that you'll take the roll of an ODST.
I think this could go either way with the series if it happens.

And you heard this where?

Yeah.
There is no news, don't clutter the topic with pointless speculation. The game isn't even announced, there are no credible sources for the game even existing, so posts about the content of the game are moot.
