But what is this new craze sweeping the nations? It's a guitar hero like game but with your keyboard!
Anyway,

Frets on fire is an open source game that provides quite a bit of fun
It's played using your keyboard like this,

Of course you don't have to hold it like that but I do as I do better this way. (If you are going to die because of this, you can also use your guitar hero controllers if you can plug them into your computer) Before asking, "How do we play it?!" Download it, and do the tutorial. Once you've had your fun with the three songs given, register at their forums to gain access to the mods and tune downloads forums! Many people are updating it with their favorite songs and best frettings yet by using the song editor that is provided with the game.

I was just pointing it out, that's all.

Finally found where I could find new songs for FoF (in other words, the first time I've looked). Downloading a few songs from GHIII..

Used to have it. I'm too used to the guitar hero guitar, not keyboard keys. So I stick to guitar hero. Fun while it lasted tho'.

It's a good game, I also got GH so I sont really play it anymore, but i have made a few songs for it before

Big complaint: Due to something I don't really think is FoFs fault, I can't hold down enough keys at times, making it impossible to hit some notes. (Like, if I hold down - | - | |, where -'s are things i'm not holding down and |'s are things I am holding down, I can't do it, so I miss the note. So does - | | | -.

Also, on the keyboard I exclusively use for FoF, the input cable goes right where the default keys are, which I think worked. I had to move the keys to something else otherwise it was impossible to hit the note on the far right that's only in hard and expert.

Otherwise, cool. I wish I had a GH guitar or something to use instead, it's so much easier.

Buy a used GH guitar from somewhere. Theres tuts on the FoF forum on how to mod the GH guitar to work for PC.
