As stated, no, that can happen to any console. Hearing that rumor is a result of when the new heatsinks were put in place, and the Halo 3 console had them a few weeks early. Now all would have it, and the Elite has it too, and both are less susceptible to that problem.

Here's a good reference page:

I'll line up the pricing.

Elite comes with 120GB hard drive. Halo 3 comes with 20GB.
Halo 3 comes with Play and Charge kit. Elite does not.
120GB hard drive costs $180.
Play and Charge kit costs $20.

Elite costs $450.
Halo 3 costs $400.

Elite + Play and Charge kit = $470
Halo 3 + 120GB hard drive (With mismatched colors..) = $580

I think it's clear which is the better choice to buy. If you're a new investor into the 360, go with an Elite. The 120GB may not seem useful right now, but when you're saving over $100 on it, it's something you really should do.

Go with either the Halo 3 or Elite one. They both run quieter and don't heat up. I played my Halo 3 360 for 16 hours straight, with no framerate drops, or heatups.

Yeah the Elites And Halo 3 versions, I think, are known as Falcon units. These ones have a Ben Q DVD drive, which is apparently quieter, and they also don't heat up as much. Any 360 made after August 07 has a HDMI output.

I'm really annoyed because my dad just bought a nice new HD TV and, alough it makes hardly any difference, I can't use HDMI!! Just good old component.
