seems like a waste of time, doesn't xbox have those headsets? why not just use those instead of slow typing.

Because this is a different feature. This allows WLM > Xbox 360 messages, not just console to console. This is an early technology and I'm sure they're looking into cross platform audio chatting.

I wish the updates were optional, I don't want any more useless shit all over my dashboard. I have my PC for Instant Messaging, and my 360 for gaming. Let's keep it that way. k?

And that's why you bought the hd dvd extender on the xbox, and thats why you use windows media centre on it, because its
for gaming right?
Having to scroll through about 6 items in a menu must be tough though, especially after deciding to purchace the xbox 360, being a multimedia powerhouse and a gaming machine from the start...Geez, expecting more integration from Microsoft would have just outrageous...
I think it could be kool, and the accessory looks hilarious

Te new xbl update sounds quite good too

I agree with Scotty to an extent...I know I won't use the instant messaging service or buy the keyboard accessory, but it's good that they're making the Xbox 360 an alternative to the PC in certain ways.

I wouldn't be using it either...Only because to go on xbl, I hook it through my pc, which is a laptop, which is right next to me on the lounge...So basically if I want MSN, I just use it on the lappy next to me

...
But I'm very sure people will like it and use it who are not in my situation

That's the exact reason I think it's pointless, because
generally speaking, I bet the majority of 360 users' PC's are very close by... mine is, hence me not agreeing with shoving this crap on my 360.
OK Mr Wise Guy, PC for IM'ing, 360 for gaming AND High Definition Video. Happy?

If they are blending XBL with the PC, and XBL is already a feature in Vista, why not have text chatting capabilities? it would allow people without a mic play on live. how about make it possible to blend the two, like in BF2 and CSS, with the ability to do both, and blend them seamlessly, With the ability to block the ladder out? It's feasible to blend the two without major commotion. To think, a new breed of 12 year old on XBL, but without hearing their high pitched screaming voices?! Perfect!

But now you get to read there horrible typing skills like, "dood wtf lol I mean come on lol you just effing headshotted me lol!".[/offtopic]
Y
I read and just laughed when I saw the QWERTY keyboard for the 360 controler. Like what the controllers aren't big enough? Well they aren't big, but that keyboard is just huge.

I would rather sell my 360 then be seen with that thing.

The update looks really neato.
Hopefully they also make opening and closing the guide a little more smooth.
I've had problems while just browsing sometimes.
