Errr... Hasn't Microsoft been doing that to Halo recently? And no, Sony isn't going to die even if PlayStation was somehow discontinued, which it won't be. PlayStation will still be the main home of Sqaure-Enix games, including Final Fantasy XIII. PS3 is still pretty new, not sure why you guys expect it to have a major collection of fabulous games.
