Advice on upgrading

Ok, I can bet that I have the slowest Internet speed on Halomods? Does anyone else have speeds this low:?
This is not dial up. It's Verizon DSL "High-speed" Internet.
To be honest, I do download a lot and I hate leaving my computer on all night to download a 1gb+ file. If I'm playing Xbox Live and my brother watches Youtube, the game I am playing lags horribly and I get lagged out. On average, I get a 100kb/sec download speed. And that is with a download accelerator. I believe we are paying $30-$40 a month for this. No, here is the hard part. Our phone, e-mail, etc is on Verizon as well. So my parents think that if we upgrade to a different service, we would lose e-mail, but I know we won't. Does anyone have any advice on how I can persuade them to upgrade to a faster and possible cheaper service?

Yes, and it would please your parents. Upgrade to Verizon FIOS.
I think it starts at 4 mb dl speed, but I have 11 mb
It is very reliable and never falters.
Though it is a relatively new service, so the fiber optic cables may not have been put down in your area yet.
Oh, and that test was over my wireless router on my laptop, I haven't test my desktop.

I knew someone would say that. We WOULD upgrade to FiOS, BUT it isn't available in my area... But it is available about a block away from my neighborhood...

Yeah, I know what that's like.
The neighborhood across the lake from us was the second area to have FiOS cables laid down but we didn't get it for 6 months after that.
I would suggest calling them and see if you can wait it out until they come to your area.

Mine's about double yours.
I get slow downloads, but I just got used to it. I also have to deal with lag, but I just don't play online when it's slow. My parents barely use the internet so they have no reason to upgrade. My internet works, so it's whatever.
Although $40 is a complete ripoff for that speed.

They just suggest the closest testing site to you, not necessarily the one with the best upload speeds.

First off, DO NOT use download accelerators. In the end, it's actually hurting you.
Also, Verizon FIOS, just wait until it's in your area.

The one I use, Internet Download Manager, is a really good one. It has boosted my downloading speed by 30kb.
I've been waiting for more than a year.

Why do you still own Dial-Up? I didn't even know that was offered anymore. :/

Are you going to college soon? My internet at home is pretty meh, but I have crazy-ass fast speeds here at GA Tech. You may not want to get super involved with this if you are going to be moving out soon anyway...
But then again not all college internet speeds were created equal...
GA Tech (Wired):

(Wireless):

I got my friend to run a test at NC State:

I will not be going to college anytime soon. I just got into high school. But those are some great speeds. I think I'll go with FiOS. Once it comes to my area...
