I got some spray paint for Christmas...
Well It took 2 coats of primer per item, 3 coats of paint and 2-4 coats of light clear coating, a lot of wet sanding and hours of meticulous work over the course of 3 days, and now I'm finally done with it! . I've been wanting to paint my Xbox for some time now, just to give it that extra pizaz. Its pretty much my first full on project with spray-painting anything, not bad I'd say.

From the front
and a shot from the back. (the extra jack is a digital coaxial output I put in)
and the remote
I tried removing the Xbox logo/jewel thingy before I started this project to make it clear but the tutorials I was following included PRYING the thing up, and after a good hour of heating, freezing and prying with a screwdriver, I decided not to risk scratching anything. I eventually got the thing off by using dental floss to saw away at the glue. worked like a charm
I'll be working on making it clear today, maybe adding bright blue LEDs tomorrow.
Now the outside is as 1337n00bh@x0rz as the inside is. I installed a 160gb HDD, a digital coax output, an extra cooling fan and did some other cooling mods.
oh and another thing; i've never had blue boogers before this. kind of a weird thing to experience. Not something you want to see come out of your nose.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
I went out and bought some Brasso metal polish and got to work clearing up that jewel. Worked like a charm Then I hoped on over to Radioshack and bought a 10 dollar 80mm fan with blue LEDs, peeled off the LED strip and now I have myself some lights to work with! Not that many, but I wouldn't want it ultra bright anyways.
I used a metallic blue paint with metal flakes. A little more spendy, but worth the sparkles. Dupli-color "Ocean Blue" with flakes and then some automotive paint for the silver color.Jordan wrote:I like it.
Not to hijack the thread, but that paint looks a lot like the blue I used for my xbox. What kind did you use?
I can see a digital camera in that picture man, use it!!Jordan wrote:Cell phone picture so everything looks tan for some reason..

That looks pretty awesome. Makes me want to clean up my old box and pimp it out! Hope to see finished pics up soon.

Very very nice
About three or four years ago, I was working on installing controller port LED's for my xbox. Unknown to me, a little drip of solder fell on the motherboard and connected two traces together. BAM-short circuit, and it actually caught fire for around 5 seconds and then went out.
All in all, be careful

The good thing is, nowadays, like-new Xboxes only cost about $50 on Ebay or at Gamestop or something, if they have any in stock. I'm considering getting an entirely new one and starting from scratch, seeing as my old one is in...less than perfect condition. >_>antszy101 wrote:Very very nice

Decent, cheap media center that can play games? I think it'd be worth the effort.Cuda wrote:Is it really worth the time and money to do this? I hardly know anyone that has these anymore.

Assuming it's modded, you can also use it as a PSX, N64, SNES, NES, and I think up to GBA even works. It'd be something cool to have when say...a little cousin comes around who probably won't understand how to play Gears of War or Call of Duty very well.G.I.R. wrote:Decent, cheap media center that can play games? I haven't seen any case mods in a while. Pretty nice work.

Ahh.. I used a Rustoleum blue, but it has metal flakes just like that one.Scorch wrote:Thanks for the feedback everyone!I used a metallic blue paint with metal flakes. <moment of silence for the fallen Xbox>
lol
I'm like super-paranoid/meticulous so whenever I'm soldering anything, I put down a cloth over the circuit board and tape over whatever isn't being soldered. I'm super careful.
50 dollars for an extremely useful piece of electronics? Hell yea! They can do so freaking much. Emulators, Xbox games, movies (HD/5.1), music, pictures, internet browsing, music/video streaming (youtube), Linux...the list goes on.G.I.R. wrote:Decent, cheap media center that can play games? Thanks again for the comments peeps
I got the jewel cleared up and a hole drilled out. But I think I might have drilled it too big cause now the jewel has nothing to rest on
this is going to be hard to mount.
Anyways, I'm 99% finished. I set the jewel in there and took some pics. Looking sweeeet. I'm really liking how its turning out
