It's just some guy who runs a website. It's not like the Prime Minister is saying it. It would be like if Tom from MySpace said something was retarded. Who cares?

Because the person saying it is supposedly a CEO of some networking company who in which the tradition sense, would not say such a thing or atleast would word the comment differently.
"Retard" or "retarded" is used so much as a slang word that the original meaning is forgotten and almost seems unprofessional.

The person is the "president" of a social networking website. He is akin to Tom, from MySpace, as I said. He's not some corporate CEO, he's a guy that owns a social networking site. It is, for all intents and purposes, like Tom saying something is retarded. Nobody cares.

Right, again with the wording issue, not only is it still irrelevant and pointless to go on about, but now you're making it the central facet of your argument, because you feel you can build a case on it. It has nothing to do with this discussion, so drop it. You're off on a pointless tangent with it. Also, I didn't use it in any way that was contextually important, so I fail to see your point. Tom is the owner and founder of MySpace, he is the person who owns the site. I chose him as an example for name recognition, as most people know who he is. He is just some random dude who owns a website, that is the same type of person being quoted in the article. He is a guy that owns a website, he is not a CEO of a big corporation, he just owns a popular website, what he says should not be expected to be politically correct, he's probably just some normal guy, the exact type of person who would use such slang. Hoping that it was a translator error doesn't make sense, because there is no reason you would expect such a person to not say something like that. That is the basis for this entire argument, and I think if people had paid a little more attention to the phrase "social networking site," we could have avoided it. "Social networking site" and "networking company" have very, very different connotations, and are in no way comparable.

Tom doesn't own Myspace. He still works for them and employs staff, but doesn't own it. News Corp. Bought it from him a few years ago. So if in Russia, retards buy Emoticons, Does that mean in regards to Smirnoff's Law, that in The United States, Emoticons buy retards?

Whatever. Semantics. The analogy accomplishes the same message either way.

Who Cares? Really how does this relate to your life in any way, shape or form. It doesn't. You probably don't even live in Russia.

Trademarks translate world wide.
Sort of like how konami had to change the MGS4 theme tune because it was too simular to a classical russian music.
