So I got an iPod Touch today and found out it's the 2nd generation. From what i've been reading online, it's not able to be jail broken. Now am I looking in the wrong places, or the places i'm looking...are these old posts and stuff? Bottom line, is it possible to jailbreak the 2nd gen. iPod touch with firmware 2.1.1? Anybody know?

No, they fixed a flaw in the USB controller that does not allow it to accept modified firmware anymore.

yes they will find a new way but from what I've seen they are not even concentrating on making one. The attention is on the iphone now

A couple of good firmware hackers in the iPod Touch community moved on from trying to hack the 2nd gen. Some moved on to Android and the iPhone 3G.
But I'm sure if you give it time someone will find a way around it. It may just take a while.

I'd suggest returning it and getting a 1st Gen one because jailbreaking makes it ten times funner.

why? the app store eliminates the need to jailbreak. It has no more point.

If you jailbreak, there's emulators, WinterBoard, BossPrefs and tools that allow more customization and freedom without the restriction of the App Store.
The App Store and jailbroken apps together is a lot better than just the App Store for me.

I have to agree that I have found little need to want to jailbreak again. 2.2 addresses a large majority of my needs.
Jailbreaking can have a few pretty nifty things, the biggest would be themes and if you're a little bitch you can get cracked app store apps so you don't have to pay, 5 dock icons and reflective dock...
But from what I've read from places, 2g Touch break isn't too likely in the near future at least.

I think I saw that. I'm just hoping what I was looking at was old but i'm sure there hasn't been much in the way of them getting around to it. Lol maybe they will get bored and do it sometime in the near future...(doubtedly). Oh well. I'm very pleased with it. Beats a iPod mini 4gb.

I like jailbreaking mainly because of the emulators and MewSeek and PwnPlayer. I also love the theming, making my iPod different from every other single person's in the world.
All in all but I love my iPod just because it plays music, so I could really care less either way.
Also I have been following the jailbreaking community a lot and I doubt they will have a jailbreak for the 2g for atleast another month at the very least.

You see and I don't mind because I agree with you. I have a 32gb ipod touch and I love it for what it's basic functionality is. Movies...music...photo's. I can't complain. I also wouldn't complain having cool homebrew stuff either...cuz let's be honest, who doesn't love 3rd party

. Anyways, I have no problem waiting around atleast another month. I would just rather not have to wait like a year or so. But if it happens it happens. I'm in no position to complain.
