Do you consider fish to be meat?

Has anyone every noticed that some people don't consider fish to be meat? Like, people who are vegetarian say that they don't eat pork or chicken, but still eat fish. I ask them, why isn't fish considered to be meat? They say it just isn't. I don't know why it wouldn't be considered meat, it's just like any other animal. What do you guys think? (i'm not vegetarian, just to let you know. My name is only peta-182 because I like the stickers that peta sends me :P )

Discuss :D

Erm, I'm pretty sure it's meat. What other food group could it be?

I declare this the most random discussion of the week.

1. the flesh of animals as used for food.
2. the edible part of anything, as a fruit or nut: Crack the walnuts and remove the meats.
3. the essential point or part of an argument, literary work, etc.; gist; crux: The meat of the play is the jealousy between the two brothers.
4. solid food: meat and drink.
5. solid or substantial content; pith: The article was full of meat, with few wasted words.
6. a favorite occupation, activity, etc.: Chess in his meat.
7. Chiefly South Midland and Southern U.S. pork, esp. bacon.
8. Slang: Vulgar. penis.
9. Archaic. the principal meal: to say grace before meat.

By those definitions taken from dictionary.com, I'd have to say yes, fish is meat.

That's exactly what I say sometimes! But they keep saying that it's not considered meat, despite the fact that it's from an animal

Yes. If people are going to suggest that fish does not count as a meat so they can be pussies about their diet, punch them in the face and call them a hypocrite.

Fish is the best.
Yes, it's meat. I don't see what else it could be.

Meat:
1. the flesh of animals as used for food.

I would definitely consider fish meat. It's stupid not to, I go deep sea fishing a lot. When fishermen gut the fish, they usually call the edible part meat.

Although I do know a girl, she doesn't consider herself vegetarian. She eats only fish and chicken. Not sure why, I guess she had a bad experience with steak once? zombie steak crawling up walls.

This also brings up a strange thing that happened to me. I once had a dream I was in my house, and my friend was there. He threw a fish at me, then yelled "THE MEAT! GET THE MEAT!" I thought I woke up but it turns out I was dreaming inside my own dream. So when I thought I woke up, I was starring at my ceiling. All of the sudden I see a T-Bone steak crawling up my wall. I (actually) woke up this time, and just lie there in bed, wondering why the hell I was dreaming about steak climbing up walls... Sorry I went off topic a lot.

I figure it's probably some Judeo-Christian tradition, ie. not eating meat on Fridays in Lent, but still eating fish.

And we all know that back in the olden times, fish was to meat as RC Cola is to Coke.

My mother eats fish but tries to avoid the other meats. She's not really an official "vegetarian" (and she doesn't claim to be one). This is also due to the fact that she's one of those kinds of people who likes getting things naturally, and the fish here is all from the ocean and doesn't have any of that growth crap in it, or any other sort of "nasty" stuff in it.

Isn't there mercury in fish?

There's a LOT of types of vegetarians... you're prolly thinking of vegans and normal vegetarians.... Or maybe even thinkin about pescetarians(doesn't eat meat, but will eat fish)... then there's even Lacto Ovo vegetarians (no meat.. just dairy and eggs)... and pollotarians (eats birds and dairy but no actual other meats)

there's probably more... but.. I can't think of them now...

Some people don't consider fish a meat because some studies have shown that fish (just like most other cold blooded animals) can't feel pain, so there's no guilt in killing them. (They don't have a developed enough brain to know what pain is or something i think...)

I'm a vegetarian... Lacto Ovo though of course.... Fish is meat in my book.

But they can have a bagel with cream cheese? That's also from an animal. Are there certain exceptions for what does and doesn't count as meat that I don't know about?

And what about my sig? Is it too long?
