Concerning all who have Zunes

Post by 0m3g4Muff1n987 »

This thread really started with the question below, but now it's more like general discussion of the Zune. Well my here was my original post:

I have a question: When you plug the zune into your computer, can you just add your existing MP3's to it, or do you have to buy all your music all over again from the marketplace? Because the way I get my music is I download music vids off of Youtube in a FLV file, and extract the audio from it into an MP3, cuz I'm cheap :P

I want a zune, but if I'm going to have to waste $100 or more on music I already have, I'll stick with something like my dad has, when I can just plunk in my MicroSD and play music from there. But a Zune has a bigger screen and is more efficient and all. Can you use your existing, home-made music?

Oh, and is the new design of the 80GB and 2, 4 and 8 gig zunes really that much better than the old 30GB? I want a 30 gig but if it's a lot crappier than the new then I might consider an 80gb, even though I'd never need all that space.

I recently went out and bought a Halo 3 Zune. Best mp3 player choice ever. Zunes are hands down better than the Ipod. There is no competition. Now that I've said my Zune propaganda (because there is no one to connect via wi-fi to) I will answer your question. Yes, you can just add existing mp3 files to your zune. All of my music was in Mp3 format, and I never had any problems. All of my songs transfered without a problem.

Also, the 30GB models are fine. They are a bit thicker (still lightweight) but when the next generation of Zunes come out, they will have the same features. It is worth it to save the money and just get an older one. Save yourself $100 or so.

Ok, cool. I'll get a 30GB one for Christmas (since my parents don't let me get anything for myself within like 2 months from Xmas :( )

Zune 2's look orsm...Lets hope they go for a more international approach whilst also keeping the same price, unlike Apple =(

But songs work on all mp3 players provided they have none of the poor DRM stuff...So you're fine there so any mp3 will do.

Also, Id be more inclined to do the zune 2 rather than 30gb...Larger screen "premium headphones", some touch sensitive button thing (good thing? :?), and possibly other good features like battery life and more portability (thinner)...Really depens on your money and if you want/need those features though

edit:
some place wrote:# Battery life (music): Up to 30 hours (wireless off)
# Battery life (pictures): Up to 4 hours
# Battery (video): Up to 4 hours
# Charging time (AC adapter): Approx. 2 hours (full), approx. 1 hour (90 percent)
# Charging time (via USB): Approx. 2 hours 15 minutes (full), approx. 1 hour 15 minutes (90 percent)

What's wrong with iPods locke? :P

Zune 2s look pretty cool, the first part of the menu (main screen sorta thing, with the huge menu text) is a little weird but I loved the other parts of the menu. I don't plan on getting one though, as I have no money.

I love my Zune Dearly. The best decision I've made. I've had it since the release, and do not regret paying the 250 for it. It my be Heavier, thicker, and all that shit people like to rag on it for, but by far, it is a more steady, reliable piece of work than any iPod I've ever used. Plus, theres several non-Microsoft Modifications that can be made to it that will expand the memory.

I agree. I love my Zune, I prefer thicker and sturdier Media Players, over thin ones. When I used my brothers iPod, I hated it. I mean I don't completely hate them. They are just too thin, and they feel weird. To me, the click wheel is annoying as hell.

That's why I've sort of gone against iPods to an extent recently. They've gone from a sweet new media player to something that goes on name alone, there are plenty of other ones out there.

I think Apple sort of missed the point of user friendly media devices of late, it's not all about making it all nice and skinny, it's about having a nice device.

I actually liked the first gen iPod the best. They just seem to fit in my hand better.

I like how Microsoft is making a new approach to the Zune with the Zune 2. But I just hate thin devices. I don't know why, they are just annoying to me.

The first gen one was the best. I loved every aspect of it, the design was awesome and it just was... good. It was a brick...

5GB, but still awesome :P

I love my Zune. It automatically put all my music from the My Music folder on my computer onto it and quickly when I first plugged it in. :P

Yeah the iPod Touch and iPhone are pretty damn cool regardless. I saw a kid at school with one, I was like, that's pretty damn sweet. It's something new at least, not the same old thing with a slightly thinner case.

I hate the iPhone. The buttons are too damn small for large hands. The concept is cool and all, but it gets really tough typing in "www.gabtopnetworksite.org/****" to get to my music and stuff off of it. it gets to a point where it's just soo tedius and annoying. The headphone jack is really deep in the phone itself and impossible to use any other type of headphone without trimming the edges on the plug. My Dad's coworker has the Shure SE210 headphones and got soo fucking pissed he had to modify the plug so he could use it, and didn't want to cut up a set of $200 earbuds to use it and took it back. I'd rather carry the extra few ounces and carry a normal phone, and my Zune, thanks.

Meh, my iPod's never broken...there was one time I thought it did, but it was just me being stupid.

I'm sure the Zunes are perfectly great...I just like my iPod because it was the best choice at the time, it holds a bunch of stuff, and it's just easy to use. I might try out the Zune 2s at Circuit City, if they would stop being dumb and actually put up a working model, instead of one made to look like it's on, and having the other one with a dead battery all the time.

I have a PSP so buying an Ipod touch would just be stupid, so i spent 50 dollars less and got the new slim 80 gig ipod for 250. Between that and the PSP I'm set.

Come to think of it, I'll join the bandwagon in saying that 0m3g4Muff1n987, you should buy the 30GB one and save money. If you're not going to use the extra space, might as well save some moneys.

iPhone is a waste of money IMO. You would be better off getting yourself a smartphone. I purchased a Samsung Blackjack the other day. Have yet to regret that. 3G support, Windows Mobile 5 (soon WinMo6 with an update), Mobile office (edit Word Docs, open powerpoint presentations), install your own software, and multiple other things.
I have a program running that lets me listen to Sirius sat. radio and some other cool things. Its cheaper also =P

Pertaining to the Zune; I had a week with one and I gotta say I liked it better than the iPod. There isn't anything wrong with my iPod but I like the UI and a couple of features better on the Zune. The one downside is the wi-fi feature is kind of useless for people who don't live in a city.
