so apparently my state's government is "shutting down"

probably more like slowing down a bit more than anything. anyways, it seems that everyone in lansing is playing party politics and has missed the deadline for the new budget, so things will start shutting down because they won't get funding. the main thing that will affect me is when my school stops getting money from the state, which is supposed to happen in about 16 days, afterwhich i guess my school will use up all the money left in it's reserves, and when it's gone, school shuts down. i'll keep people updated here on what's going on, but in my opinion they'll finally realize it's time to consolidate their views and finish the budget before a week.

here's a FAQ on michigan.gov if you're curious about anything else: http://michigan.gov/som/0,1607,7-192--176865--,00.html

from what i can tell this is bad
1. because some schools might be forced to shut down
2. the amount of police and state troopers will be in low quanity
3. large parts of your government will be shut down or inoperable for a period of time.

theres just a bunch of things waiting to go wrong.

Wow...what's the world come to that we have to divide every one of us into opposing political groups and not be able to even do something as simple as vote a budget in...?

apparently they've enacted a temporary budget of some sort that's supposed to last for 30 days so they can get their shit together, but if it took them over 8 months to not even decide on a budget, no telling how things will turn out after this next 30 days. anyways, emergency status avoided.... for now?

Same thing is happening here in Wisconsin, but there is supposed to be a budget set up some time. It was supposed to be a while ago but some people say it could be days or weeks. I don't know what would happen if we didn't get a budget soon anyway.

yeah. like i said, they're busy playing democrat vs. republican: the budget. i find it likely we'll be in the same situation in a month's time, the only big difference being there will be snow.

so like i said, nothing interesting for now, but i'll post back in about a month's time with updates with what happens then. if everything's fine and a budget is passed, i probably won't bother, but if there's more issues i'll just bump back here and not bother with a new thread.

What would be worst is if they passed a budget without complication.

Yeah that's true, gotta keep everyone in check. If it gets out of hand just for the purpose of parties though, that's just dumb.

True, but it shouldn't come to the point where they can't get a compromise in within the deadline.
