Why Videogames?

Why do you sit and devote countless hours to video games?

Continuing on that question, I mean yes video games are fun, but what about it?

The Immersion? The Tactics? The ability to die without dieing? To escape?

...What?

Because they're interactive, and don't require much effort. Also, playing with friends online with voice chat is fun. Plus, it's not like there's much else to do nowadays (I play sports when they're in season and work out 6 days a week, along with school of course so I enjoy the little off time I have).

The ability to do things that would be dangerous, somewhat disturbing (slaughtering people), or impossible in real life.

And what GTAF said.

I rarely play them now, with the exception of tonight where me and 5 friends are staying up to play system link with two 36 (or something) inch plasma tvs.

Why do you read?

Why do you watch movies?

Why do you watch sports?

Why do you go to StripClubs and get Lapdances from ugly Wemon?

Entertainment.

some people its a stress reliever to pwn online.

i play it to just get away from my problems because i focus on the game i forget all the problems i have at school, and its fun and sometimes works the brain in tactical games.

Well that right there is something everyone should avoid.
Anyways, I haven't played any video in a long time, I've turned on Halo 2 a few times, and I have played GoW for about 10 minutes but thats about it. Sad thing is once Halo 3 comes out I'll be at my friends house more than anything else. ;_;

Entertainment, either by myself or with friends (increase entertainment twentyfold) or to do something that I don't really do in my life...Its not every day I'm born to become a 7ft supersoldier with green armour that is humanities hope of survival now is it? Or in the case of RPG's your able to essentially put yourself into the game by customising it to act like you (or the opposite) to see how the environment and world will respond to you.

They give you good hand-eye coordination, plus it relives some stress from me.

I don't play video games anymore...honestly, the only time I play Halo is at my friend's house, and that's maybe once or twice a month.
Maybe after school I hop on BF2142, or a racing game, but I don't play games much. I have school work and working on my car.

But why do I play games? I play racing games because I like cars, and I play FPS games because once in a while, you just get that golden game...the best teammates that know strategy, and a great opposing team that jokes around. Sadly, that's hard to find on BF2142, because NOBODY has a sense of humor on that game.

I'm not going to try to come up with huge reasons to impress anyone.. I just play them because they are fun.
But I haven't actually sat down and played one since about... February. I usually just play for about 10 minutes or so and quit. I've lost interest in them.

I play SWBF2 online every once in a while. Not really sure why though because the game's lack of balance just pisses me off.

i've actually moved way away from games when i think about it. used to play constantly, then i realized i could be doing something productive instead of accomplishing worthless things. mostly though, i do it to chill out.
