Paintballing

Post by Andrew_b »

Ok...i entered highschool and they had a paintball club...so i signed up.

after i sign up i am notified that i need all the equipment...i joined the club to go paintballing because i have fun shooting people...but when i last went painballing all the equipment was there...
So here is my question

What is a good gun, and good gear?

and are there any upgrades that the gun can have...i heard you can get lasers :)

I dont plan on using this just for the club, i plan to start paintballing regularly.

I would purchase a $100 or higher Spyder model. A lot of people like Tippmann's but I personally hate them. I have a JT USA Excellerator 5.0 and it's a nice gun when it works but its shit out a lot. My friend and my brother both have Spyder paintball guns and they've been reliable and good quality.

As for gear, I would get Goggles with Thermal Lenses so they won't fog up as much. I wouldn't get lasers or sights or anything for your gun unless you plan on playing in large scenario games. You may want to gconsider gettinig a longer barrel though, but I wouldn't suggest doing that until after you've played a few games and you get the overall feel for your gun. You'll probably need to get an Elbow that attches to your guns paintball feeder along with a Hopper if your gun doesn't come with one.

Another thing, wouldn't really recommend wearing Paintball Armor, a sweatshirt/hoodie would do the trick of preventing hurt....sometimes. If you're looking to get paintball styled clothes, just go and get a Paintball Jersey or Pants.

Hope this helps and good luck with playing.

Yeah, the elbow just attaches to the part of the gun where the paintballs feed in. It then just attaches to the hopper as well so the hopper goes off at an angle giving you better sight. Chances are though, if you buy a gun that requires one, it'll come in the package.

Go for a cheap 50-100 model, cause you don't want to spend a lot of money if you get bored of it. I personally refuse to go paintballing though cause all of my friends have angel 05's.

NO. Simple as that. Spyder Electra is completely overpriced for its low performance. The Dual rocking trigger is, in comparison, harder to use than just walking your standard double trigger. I bet I can outshoot you on my '05 Spyder Pilot (assuming you have an electra), speed wise.

I would reccomend either a Spyder Pilot, Spyder VS2, Tippman of any kind, or a Smart Parts ION. They are all great markers.

For equipment, don't overdo it. Do NOT get anything more than a 16" barrel, because you are just losing FPS and Accuracy when doing so, inaccurate as paintballs are already. I personally have a DYE XTend barrel, but I would reccomend a J&J Ceramic 14" barrel. Don't be fooled into buying a laser, a flashlight, a scope, or anything like that, because they really don't work. Especially the scope. You'll end up giving yourself away more times than not. Learn to aim the gun yourself, you'll be much better off. No offense to you.

If you get a Spyder and want to get a new hopper for it, I would reccomend a CCM Heli-Clamp feedneck (so your loader can actually fit on your marker >_>), and one of the following hoppers:

Viewloader Revvy
Viewloader eVLution 2 or 3 (eggy for short)
a used Halo B or Empire Reloader B

the Halo/Empire loaders are expensive new, and feed waaaay faster than what you'll need for a spyder. However, if you really like paintball, I would reccomend getting one of those if you get a new, faster gun eventually. An eggy feeds faster than what you need as well, but it's what I have and i havent had any problems with it, except for a tiny piece breaking off, which was fixed with duct tape. I'll reccomend the Revvy out of them all, though, because it gives you solid performance for an entry level electro feeder, and at dirt cheap price, too. You'll spend more on a case of paintballs than that loader.

That's about all i've got, though. Hope I helped some.

If I may, I also suggest visiting www.pbreview.com . They have some wonderful forums and reviews of pretty much any piece of equipment you can think of. That really helped me out on alot of my purchases.

I have a tippman 98 custom with an added stock and 14' barrel. It works good. :)

I also found that when you use barrels over 14 inches in length, it causes you paint balls to slow down, losing fps. So I went with the 14 incher. :)

Yes. xtremez is a very reliable site. I have ordered all of my equipment (save my marker itself, barell, and aftermarket grips) from that site. They have a broad selection of everything you could need. The Tippman A5 is a great marker. If you can get one with an E-Trig(ger), all the better. I'd still reccomend the Smart Parts ION over an A5, but, whatever floats your boat.

May I also suggest www.actionvilliage.com , or www.pbgear.com to go straight to their paintball section. They are just as good, if not better, than xtremez.

Again:

Spyder Pilot
Spyder VS2
Tippman of any kind (besides that facking propane one, ugh)
Smart Parts ION

Best bang for the buck for a beginner.
