Need a new computer

Post by DrXThirst »

Well, I'm tired of not being able to mod or do anything when I'm at my moms house because of her HORRIBLE computer. So, I decided to get a new one this Christmas. However, my grandmother said if she is going to spend her money, then I have to get a laptop because she's tired of me always wanting to use everyone else's. However, the price must stay under 2000 dollars AFTER tax AND shipping.

However, here is what I've come up with:

Option 1 -
Manufacturer : Dell
Type : Vostro
Price : $1,699
PROCESSOR : Intel

I think the processor will be fine and stick with the ram. Most computers at dell you can't change the processor anyway.

Well I can get up to a 2.4ghz Dual-Core but its like 1000 dollars more. I thought a 1.8ghz Dual-Core would've been fine.

His processor is fine. Though if you have the money, going with a second gig of ram isn't a bad idea.

Also, what kind of battery does it come with?

What you have posted there is fine. It can handle any modding app just fine. Plus some pretty higher end games ;]

I would get it.

I'd say macbook pro, but you'd have to use an educational discount to get the lower end model (it's 1,999)

There are actually refurbished ones for cheaper than the dell, and another one $100 more. The cheaper one only has a X1600 vid card, but the one that's a little more has the same vid card as your dell, and buying a mac gives you a computer that is reliable. EDIT: Ah, it's the 128MB model though. However, the computer is 2.2Ghz, while the one you're looking at is only 1.8Ghz. It also only has 2GB of RAM while the one you want has 4GB. Plus you'd have to purchase windows vista/XP, another $100 or so. So for what you want, you'd probably want the dell, even though I'd personally go against it.

EDIT2x: Actually it's not $100 more, it's the same price.

I'm just bringing that up as an option, I don't really know what you want to do with the computer other than mod. I'll say this though, if you're totally into gaming, get the dell. If you're not necissarily 100% obsessed about games, you could go with either.

Well, I'm HOPING that mine is 2000. >_>

Because last year I got a 1000 dollar computer from JUST my dad. That was for ONLY Christmas.

So, this year, my mom said that both my sets of grandparents and my mom and my dad could all go together for my birthday and Christmas (so that I only get 1 thing) to get me a computer. So, I'm hoping for 2000. It may be more. :o

========================================

AH. Now I found something that looks like a good price. You guys tell me!

Main Components :
PROCESSOR : Intel
