ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>

Re: potato guns.
They're kinda stupid if you ask me, and if I'm not mistaken they're outlawed in alot of states.[cc]z@nd! wrote:so, afer a semi-successfull potato cannon construction, i'm wondering what your guys' opinions are, if you've built any, experiences, advice, etc.

One word. Awesome.
I built my first one about a year ago and loved it. So I started drawing up plans for a shoulder mounted one and a breach loaded one (not sure how the latter would work, but meh. I'll figure something out.)
For advice, when you're getting fuel just get the largest cheapest can of hair spray you can find. If it says it's flammable, that is.
For the ignition, I use a flint light, but using a spark igniter.
If you ever what to get into extreme spud launching (or rather, 2x4 launching) You can hook up propane tanks to the side (normally 2 max) and have them feed into a sealed container. Have some kind of remote ignition and watch the 2x4 fly at about 150 MPH*.
If you get bored of spuds you can always move to Tennis balls. That same site sells a Air Compressed Tennis Ball launcher. It'll launch 10-15 tennis balls/minute. at 400 MPH. Price: $1,000.
Or you can draw up your own plan and build from that at much cheaper price.
* And no, I'm not making this up. It really does fly that fast, most of the time it's closer to 200MPH. Here's some information about it (They have 8 testing videos at the bottom of the page.)
This is the tornado testing launcher. The above video is the first version which isn't for sale. (This one is, for $3,000.)

yeah, i'm planning on building a large one soon. the only problem i have is finding a 4-inch diameter tube that's made for pressure. all the ones at the lowe's near me say "NOT FOR PRESSURE" on them in large letters. and on the note of hairspray, i can't believe people would pay so much for it! browsing through kroger looking for some, we grabbed a $2 can, but there's ones in there upwards of $20!! women...
and imo, the larger the expansion chamber, the more powerful the gun, because the more fuel/air mix you can fit in.

Imagine this scrawny kid with glasses and messed up teeth saying "i throw potatoes" just randomly

@ latinomodder: along the side of the pipe they'll generally say the pressrue rating, most likely somewhere around 200-280 PSI.
and do you guys ever shoot anything other than potatoes? i dunno, like some paintballs wrapped in paper towels maybe?

when i checked in the store, the next size down fits in the barrel rather well. for example, i bet you could plug up a length of 1 1/2" PVC and use it in a cannon with a 2" barrel.
oh, and check out this monster: http://youtube.com/watch?v=zbULgsPBX6Q
