The shortest straw

Well, I'm not sure what happened, but I did something that corrupted my main partition completly. It runs Vista, but if anyone wants to throw a vista insult/joke my way, don't expect that post to be in this thread for long. It was user error but I'm not sure which thing I did corrupted it.

Actually, now that I remember, it was ubuntu that killed it. It didn't like me believing it was redundant in comparison to Vista.

But that's not the point of this topic. What I'm here posting about is that none of my files could be recovered, none... Fucking sucks. It pains me so much that this happened. I've lost all my installations, my settings, my customisation, my music, all the photos I've taken during my life, codename epic, the orsm spartan laser which I worked on so much to get perfect for everyone to use and have fun with, all my other mods (including my skin for the comp), all the high tech modding applications from various people, my university work, my interactive adventure, my almighty adventure 5 (which had already taken me many hours to animate [Over one minute of fast past ownage action and only 1/5th of the way], my new drawings too and whatever else I had.

To put it quite simply, I've fucking lost everything.

So the aim of this post is to really inform the people of halomods that I will have to postpone a lot, if not all of my projects that I had instore for everyone. I'm hoping I can recover a lot of stuff that I had lost via backups and other sources (like other computers I own), but the majority of what I had I doubt will come back.

With the loss of the partition, I'm not sure how much inspiration I have for re-doing all the things I've done so there's a chance that this is me putting up my modding gloves but I hope it isn't in a way because I want to finish codename epic because H2 downloads needs it more than ever.

I know that there's not too much to discuss GTAF, I'd hope you don't lock it but I don't mind if you do aswell, but I just want people to see my situation.

So I thought I should let people know.

:(

Man, that's terrible...

I don't know what to say, that is the worst thing that could ever happen to anyone here at halomods. I've dealt with breaking 500 GB hard drives with essays and university work on it before, but NOTHING like that.

Sorry to hear that.

Are you entirely sure the data is actually lost? There must be a way of recovering it...

Sorry to hear that. :( Crashes are always bad, I remember when DivX totally blew up my Mac. Hopefully you can find a program that might recover them, because they're life savers.

Ok, a lot of stuff I had uploaded to the internet, and others I had on my phone or mp3 player (There would have been more if I could have had the storage space I requested ;) but NOOOO )

I've also run a few recovery utilities. They prove that yes, a lot of files are stile recoverable...Well, at least the ones I want/need.

Here's the problem, this is a common problem I bet and there are some money hungry mo-fo's out there. Could people please help me find a FREE COMPLETE recovery application? As things find the lost files, but don't restore them unless I pay :( (Which is bullshite) so any help would be appreciated m muchly!

Do you have any of it backed up? If not, I'm sorry, and hope that shadowkhas can help to recover as much as possible...

Well if it makes you feel like having company scotty, I just upgraded to vista, and my sound and internet takes literally 8 hours to install due to serious lag, last night at 1:20am I started installing the drivers, then fell asleep and when I work up they were done, So I turned off computer becuz it was lagging still, and I thought I was smart and booted with last known configuaration that worked, so the drivers uninstalled again.
So my computer is just pwning me today.

I would *** die. So sorry it happened, but GIR and xbox might be on to something.

And offtopically, thanks for a new way to convince my friend to stop using Ubuntu.

Still no luck on finding a good program that will actually restore things properly for me.

With all this uninstalling and installing of things though, I'm worried that all my old files will be overwritten by the time I find one.

*le sigh*
Unfortunatly, after obtaining many various recovery applications and finding out none of them worked, installing other applications and such, the conclusion is sad. After using the Boot CD thing aswell, many could not find any of the correct files for me to recover.

So in conclusion, I am unable to recover the lost files and I am forced to start a new. It sucks badly.

Thanks everyone for the support though.
I'll try and recover what else I can from xbox and other computers now.

I highly recommend on investing on an external storage unit to back things up on. It really sucks when stuff goes bad. I lost a 100GB drive a while back when 100GBs was huge. Lost a lot of family photos and other important stuff that I really missed.

I have a restorer that I used when I lost my Windows partition a few months back. If you're interested, I could send it via pm.
