Surface

Microsoft's new table-top computer "Surface", was announced this week.
Microsoft Surface Confirmed: Touch-Sensitive, $10k, Minority Report Table 31,217 Views

mstablepeople.jpgProject Milan is in fact a touch-sensitive table as you guys speculated and we reported earlier. Dubbed "Surface" and five years in the making, it's set to establish a paradigm of what Microsoft calls "surface computers" which use touch as the sole method of input.

Painting with surface sounds particularly intuitive (and fun): you can use a paint brush or simply dip your fingers into virtual paint cups. Photo resizing and stacking works much like the iPhone's zoom gestures. Also cool is the capacity for multiple users.

Such sweet tech comes at a price, naturally, with the units running $10,000 a pop. But, Microsoft expects prices to plummet over the next three to five years to the point they'll be in your homes. In the meantime you'll be able to play with them at T-Mobile stores, Harrah's and Sheraton hotels.
See Images/Video Here

Honestly, I think it's awesome, and if I had the money I would defiantly buy one. Hopefully the price will drop. But so far I think it's amazing, and I would love to play an RTS on it :)[/quote]

Seen, looks okay, not very appealing.

It might be okay though.

You cannot believe how hard I am restraining from saying everything that Microsoft fanboys have said about the iPhone.

Wow Microsoft, way to go, you've made something completely unoriginal!

Again!

And Steve Balmer says the iPhone is overpriced...

GOOD THING I HAVE $10,000 USD (Is it being expensive what you're referring to shadow? I dun get it) just lying around and I've been meaning to replace my coffee table ;) Would be incredibly fun though

Sure its awesome technology, but I don't think people are going to fork out that much for something...I'm also surprised its a rear projection...Flat panel LCD, with built in HDTuner would have been an excellent solution for me :P

Well, it was probably made with businesses in mind, which would explain the ridiculous price. I don't think I would really buy that if it was $1,000 to be honest.

EDIT: I take that back, it doesn't really explain the high price...

I'd get it for $1,000...AUD. All it needs is beryl and wobbly windows to make it the ultimate coffeetable...

Can the thing connect to the internet? o_O

Its wierd how it has 5 cameras in it or whatever to scan objects with special barcodes...I don't want to put my credit card on there only for it to take my details ;)
30" high definition blue screen of death ftw  kidding ;) I think all touch screen stuff is kool, albeit everything that uses it is expensive and then loses my interest.

I was referring to people saying "ZOMG IPHONE IS OVERPRIC'D," and general people saying that touch screens will never catch on, and how Apple's wasting their efforts because people want something they're used to.

I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.

Funny thing is, they say it's not really intended for home use, and is mainly for businesses, yet everything they show off is home related.

Yeah I noticed that... There was what, like 1 (resteraunt) business demo on the internet yet like 15 recreational uses...Change marketing strategy now plz! Unless of course, all they are doing right now is attempting to build awareness for the product...Seeing it on various sites and even here I say thats a yes...But sorry to be an freakin' loser to bring up the iPhone (I just hate it because if something MS does, people bring up Apple, for everything and vice versa, I'm going insane >_<), but the media bombardment of that was much larger in comparison.

I'm going to say it'll take three years before it becomes more commercial and for home users at a nifty price of $6,000 AUD (probably 4500USD and 2000Pounds) with a newer version of windows too... But that's my prediction.
edit: just noticed that MS said that too...I didn't read that part, so I'll just say that my prediction was accurate :P
Where do CD's go? >_>

haha! True :P
Although it'd be had to do with the coffee table instead...there's no buttons for ALT TAB...

But I look forward to seeing this...I so hope I get one when I graduate and get my job ;p

Also note the size of the table in the third movie on the microsoft site...MUCH thinner...but probably just showing off.

I still find the uses demonstrated for this amazing (I'm not talking about image resizing, the gaming and the business uses)
