What do you think about Zune?

Well, Zune was recently released, and it seems it has been recieving some heavy critism by Ipod owners. I was just wondering what you guys think about it, and which you would want more. Personally, I rather have the Zune, it has more features, and I have heard the sound quality is better then that of Ipod, though I don't know if that is true or not. I found this comparison to be quite helpful.

I also find whenever I use a Ipod the wheel is very annoying, you can easily scroll right past a song on acident 1-3 times in a row.

Its alright and all but its expensive to me, i like the idea of sharing music i for one am a pirate well was one, and if people tell you or if you pirate listen to me STOP i got caught once and got my way out of it through comcast.

i like the idea that they have for it i like the bigger screen, but i still think the ipod is better

No, the sound quality is not better than the iPod. The quality of the music you buy in the Zune store is better (192kbps) than the iTunes store (128kbps), but the actual quality of the player is not better.

As for the actual comparisons, it's not like the Zune has got the iPod beat with features, while it does have more, the majority of them are a waste..

Most features in mp3 players are a waste now-in-days. Really I don't see why
we need even 30gb's of music at all times let alone 80gb's of it.

and also when it comes down to it what they can play theres no denying it the ipod has a wider range to select from and also it says the ipod doesnt play WMA files...it does as long as they are not DRM encrypted

I was waiting for some kind of zune vs ipod or ipod vs all thread at somepoint...
To me...iPod's are fairly crappy...Its simplistic nature and poor sound quality (I test a lot of other people's mp3 players with my awesome headphones) does not overule its nice design...

As for the zune, it is a fairly nice player, with its wifi capabilities and its 3 inch screen. Its been said to have a much better UI than that of the iPods but I have never used a zune (I would hope that Kirk has listened to the same song with the same headphones on both players before coming to the conclusion that the sound quality is equal).
I'm not sure I would buy it over a video iPod though because of its rather large size (its not huge). I like the smaller players that I don't notice and won't bring my pants down with it...
Battery of the zune isnt that great either...If it had 18+ hours battery life I'd be sold. Wifi features need to be expanded...

In my personal untested opinion the zune is a good player but comparing it to some other players doesn't make it so great. i'll wait for the next gen zune or possibly a firmware update which will make it better before consideration.

I never said one was necissarily better than the other, nor did I say they were the same Scotty :) My point was the quality of the music from the stores, everything else I cannot confirm.

If it can play music and has 512mb of storage, it's more than enough for my needs. I really have no interest in mp3 players with tons of features or storage. However, if I were to get one for some reason, my choice would be the Zune. For now though, my Axim x50 is the win.

512mb is too little for me, but I agree, these 60gb ones are kinda silly, although I quite like 30gb models, as I regularly use it as a portable HDD for carrying around larger files that don't fit on my USB flash drive. =)

I was going to get one, but I just can't stand all the DRM on the fucking thing.

I bought a 30 GB iPod video last month, and I don't regret getting it at all. I've already filled about 5 gigs with music and around 3 with video.

I guess it all comes down to what best suits the user.

I agree with gtaf.
DRM is killing us. =(

But the Zune is pretty fun.

Removing DRM from media IS illegal bud.

But more then likely illegal, bye bye.

Howdy. I like the storage, but then again, I'm more into video and pictures than I am into music. I'm with Tural, though: My Axim X50 is good enough for me, and it kicks the pants functionally off any current MP3 player, minus the storage. Thank goodness for cheap SD cards, eh?

If I were to get an MP3 player, however, I would hold off for another year. I don't trust a first-generation MP3 player, especially one that requires you to upgrade the firmware out of the box. Also, in a year from now, iPod might have an MP3 player that uses a touch screen instead of a click wheel. I've heard rumors that the entire iPod face could someday be the screen, and you would navigate with virtual touch-screen click wheel.

It's a tough call, though. Both are very good machines.

DRM is absolutley horrid... It stops you from being able to purchace other brand players which are unable to play those DRM style...
I hate it so much that I actually purchace CD's... I'm not going to use iTunes or anything like that if its going to kick me in the butt later...
People that spend a fortune in the iTunes store are later screwed as they can only use it on another iPod...

And Chad, I've seen those rumours :P Just like those "iPhone" ones...

Hmmm, I have an iPod video, I love it, but I guess that other thing looks ok, but the iPod is very easy to use, and yes at first the click wheel is really annoying but you get used to it real soon, if it were e, I'd get th iPod.

Call me a hipocrite, but the topic was called 'What do you think of the Zune?' not... "Tell me about your iPod"
