I also get a sound error well playing fear and every other game. It says that snddrv.dll was not able to start. Also there is no volume bar down at the bottem right hand corner and im positve that my speakers are pluged in properly.

that's where the problem lies. try getting the latest drivers from your pc manufacturer, or if everything was stock and you didn't add anything, just put the system restore disc that came with your computer in the cd drive, reboot the computer, and on the screen that comes up, click RESTORE or REPAIR, whichever one comes up. what that
should do (beacuse i've never physically done it) is have windows re-install windows and system-related files without touching your personal data. or if you don't feel like doing that, do a google search for "dll download". i know there's a .dlll archive/download site, i'm just not sure where.
also, this would belong much better in the tech questions and problems forum, just for future reference.
