Question About Widescreen Movies

alright, i have a 65" HD widescreen tv. now this may be the dumbest question ever or a very good topic, either way i want to know...you pay for a widescreen tv so you can get a wider angle, thus more viewing area. yet when you rent or buy a "Widescreen Edition" DVD, pop it in and start watching, there are still horizontal black bars on the screen. shouldn't having a widescreen tv take away the need for the bars...i thought they were for people who watch the "Widescreen Edition" movies on their Full Screen tv's. is there a setting i need to change or is this normal, and if it's normal, WTF?

No.

It is the way the movie is recorded, and mabey you could try adjusting the video settings..
