No matter how hard you try, theres always someone higher then you in power. Getting influence from other people is a struggle when they see no need to rebel. The government keeps them happy and they see no reason to do anything. Although President Bush has angered plenty of people (like myself) with the war, all of society is being entertained with television and its hidden propaganda and whatnot.
Its amusing how most american news stations always talk about car bombings, and they always show the terrorists lying on the ground in peices covered with a cloth, but you never see the US soldiers.
You can't fight a system which has influence over all the people.
Let it be heard! The intellectuals/hackers manifesto!

Grades are the favorite complaint of those who don't do well. If you get bad grades, you are lazy, period. I hate people who constantly complain about how privileged they are. Do any of you know how lucky you are to get an education? And you take it for granted and do badly?! You are just too ungrateful, too lazy, too stupid, or any combination thereof to do well in school, end of discussion. If you 'hate the system' so much, then please do us all a favor and drop out of school, you are just wasting our taxpayer's money.VoiDeD wrote:Very true indeed. And also, THC, I have an A+ in both Advanced algebra and honors chemistry, but next year I have Calc, honors physics, ap chem, ap psych, advanced computer art, and programming, so I'll have a 4.0 next year.

But you say you are close to failing classes now. Effort should not be reserved for the classes you like, a good student excells in all fields. Not to mention, a 4.0 isn't that great. Like you say, any idiot who does what his teachers say can get a 4.0, you have to actually try for higher.jks wrote:And also, THC, I have an A+ in both Advanced algebra and honors chemistry, but next year I have Calc, honors physics, ap chem, ap psych, advanced computer art, and programming, so I'll have a 4.0 next year.

You mentioned four courses that are advanced or AP. That's four extra points you can get on your GPA if you get A's, giving you an average of about a 5.6 GPA. A 4.0 is still good, but with four advanced classes, it could be much higher.jks wrote:Calc, honors physics, ap chem, ap psych, advanced computer art, and programming

Answer #1 = undefined
Answer #2 = 4 sqrt of 3
answer #3 = The function is continuous and defined for all x. The derivative 4x3-9x2 is zero only when x=0 or $x=\frac94$. So we consider the intervals $(-\infty,0)$, $(0,\frac94)$ and $(\frac94,+\infty)$. To determine the sign of the derivative on each interval we plug in convenient points, such as x=-1,1,3 and we learn that the derivative is negative (-13, -5) on the first two regions and positive (27 at x=3) on the last interval. So the function is increasing on $(-\infty,0)$, $(0,\frac94)$. For concavity, we consider the second derivative 12 x2-18x, which is zero when $x=0,\frac32$. So to understand the concavity, we look at the intervals $(-\infty,0)$, $(0,\frac32)$ and $(\frac32,+\infty)$ by plugging in conveniently-chosen points, such as x=-1,1 and 2. We see that the second derivative is negative in the middle interval and positive on the other two intervals. So the graph of the function is concave upwards on the interval $(0,\frac32)$. The candidates for relative extrema are at x=0 and $\displaystyle x=\frac94$. The first one at x=0 is not an extrema, as the function is increasing before and after x=0, so that point is neither a min nor a max. The second candidate for a relative extremum is $x=\frac94$, which is in a region where the function is concave upwards, so there is a relative minimum there. As far as plotting the function without too much work, we notice that for large postive and negative x the function is a large positive number, and we notice that it passes through a few points that are easy to plug in (0,0), (-1,4), (1,-2). So the function decreases from positive infinity down to an inflection point at the origin, where it continues to decrease but the concavity changes from upwards to downwards. The concavity switches to upwards again at $x=\frac32$ and then the function has a relative min at $x=\frac94$, after which it increases and remains concave upwards.

Oh, I didn't see the 0 there, I thought it just wanted the derivative equation. But yea, if you plug 0 into my dy/dx formula it says divide by 0 error.imgettionowned wrote:Answer #1 = undefined
Huh... I'll have to look into this, I don't understand somethings but what I did was find the derivative equation because thats what it asks for when it says y'=blah, then just plugged in pi/12 for x, maybe I should try it in degree mode. No that didn't work, oh well I'll figure it out.imgettionowned wrote:Answer #2 = 4 sqrt of 3
Ok... well I interpret $(-\infty,0)$ to mean -infinity to 0 and $(\frac94,+\infty)$ to mean whatever number that is to positive infinity so did I get it right then? I think so... it was an easy problem.imgettionowned wrote:answer #3 = The function is continuous and defined for all x. The derivative 4x3-9x2 is zero only when x=0 or $x=\frac94$. no, the common conception of a good student is that they will excell in all fields. and not only is this incorrect, imo, but is a sweeping, overgeneralizing statement about students. there's good students that don't excell in all fields. you'll see a kid in extremely advanced math, or physics getting F's in all his other classes because he has no motivation in those classes.The_Hushed_Casket wrote:a good student excells in all fields.
besides, when marching band gets in full swing beginning of school next year, i'm going to have physics, networking, programming, algebra II, english III, a language (need it to graduate

Here is what a good student is:
1. Listens and takes good notes
2. Does extra on all of his/her assignments, even if it is not required
3. Study and do your best on all of your assignments/tests
4. If there is an opprotunity to showcase any of his/her work, he/she will take it.
5. Stay focused at all times.
You don't have to be getting straight A's in all of your classes to be a good student, all you have to do is try your best in all of your classes, do a little extra more, study if you have to, take notes, etc.

personally, i have absolutely no orginization in my backpack, so i often lose work or notes. i kinda shove all the notes i take and homework i get in-between my textbooks and my notebooks. it's sorta like the temp folder in a computer, i guess...

Jks, I left you a link showing where I got the problems from.
Secondly, there are no good excuses.
Stop creating reasons why you can't do well in school.
Don't give me the I'm not motivated excuse or ADD, it's BS.
You say you have an IQ of 192, (which I know isn't true), IT WOULDN'T matter if you were motivated or not. Couple that with your photographic memory.....
jks, after your recent posts I have come to realize that you are nothing more than the opposite of what you claim.

I believe jks began the flamingjks wrote:But do you understand how that description of a hacker has been slanted and slandered over the years since its inception, you have no idea what it even means to be a hacker, you have never read any books about how it began, back in the 1980s at MIT. I'm sorry to have seen the real thirst for knowledge die out over the years, the world no longer appreciates true talent and intelligence, this is most evident with these abominations called GPAs. They give you a score based on your effort towards pleasing the bosses of this society, well I say down with GPAs and grades, down with the system! We as a society have been degraded long enough, it is time for us true intellectuals, whose crime is curiosity, whose crime is knowing more than the mundanes, to take up the arms of the mind and rebel, my friend and I already have.

if you guys can't get along, this topic doesn't deserve to live, it just leads from intelligently discussing the manifesto to intelligence between persons in comparison, and then people get disturbed and start arguing about who's intelligent, who's telling the truth, etc. let's NOT go back to the days of out-of-control flamewars (i'm thinking of the ones started by taco), and let's actually act like mature people. otherwise shutup or get out.mom wrote:I DON'T CARE WHO STARTED IT, I'M GOING TO FINISH IT!

That would be a crime, so yeah that would make you a criminal. We make use of a service already existing without paying

you call us criminals.
Oh you know those ISP's, computer programmers, and gamedevs always bombing and warring and lying and murdering and cheating! Thank god mister hacker saved us.You build atomic bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and lie to us
and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals.
The problem with this guy is that he thinks that everyone else is EVIL BAD PEOPLE and that what he is doing isn't vandalism or a crime, but some kind of perverse freedom of expression which is entirely justified by the imaginary vices he makes up and attributes to whoever or whatever he's harming. He steriotypes all of society and when they steriotype him and 'his kind' he cries all the way to Microsoft Word. He equates all of society with whatever he believes it is doing and decides it's his duty to go against it and when people complain that he isn't doing what he should be, he whines that he's misunderstood when he's just a hypocritical elitist living in a fantasy world where he expects to be rewarded for what he's doing.

I hardly see it as profound or beautiful. It's the whiny ramblings of some elitist computer nerd who thinks he should be exceptioned and praised for something no one asked him to do.
I'd like to imagine that your pride and vanity will come back to get you some day. A lazy braggart never gets anywhere in life. On the other hand, you'll be teh c00l3st guy on slashdot, you l33t haxor, you.
