Auto-Focus + Timer = fail.
Not for all things, but for when you're by yourself and trying to take pictures like you were doing, it's near impossible to get a good focus since it focuses before the timer sequence engages, not after. The only thing I can think of (other than having someone actually taking your picture) Is to have an object exactly where your head would be, then (on a tripod or unmoving surface) have your camera focus on that object, then switch to manual focus (if available, if not, you're kinda screwed if using this method), then you can use the timer easily, as long as your head is perfectly where the old object was. Even so, it's still not going to be perfect.
If anyone else knows a better way, i'm all ears. I've wondered about this myself..

Maybe YOUR camera acts that way....mine AFs when the picture is being taken, not when the timer's set.Kirk wrote:Auto-Focus + Timer = fail.

I thought about adding that, but I was tired of writing.
So your camera focuses JUST before the picture is taken? (You press the button to begin the timer sequence. No focus takes place, the normal half pressed down does nothing. The 10 sec timer (or however long yours is) ticks down, then at zero just before the picture is taken, it focuses.)
If so, that doesn't really make sense because in reality you really don't have a lot of control over the focus.
There might be a custom function in my camera to tell it when to focus, I don't know, let me check.
Either way, if you're going to be doing pro photography, you shouldn't have to worry about that anyway, since you're going to be taking pictures of others, usually the photographer isn't the subject him/herself.

That's how it seems to work, yes. For controlling that more, I just set it on a manual mode (Shutter priority), turn on the flash, and use the 5-point area focus selector so that it focuses in the general area I want it to (while still looking at what should be chosen), instead of just choosing what it thinks is best out of the whole picture.Kirk wrote:I thought about adding that, but I was tired of writing.

I'm only one person.. I can't control what the camera does while I'm standing in front of it :\ I put everything on auto so I wouldn't have to mess with it and take a few test pictures to make sure the settings were all perfect.
My camera is good, but it's not some uber $1000 HD camera. It's just a generic camera.

I use full manual, I frickin hate auto.
And shadowkhas, ah yeah the full focus range will help, but sometimes it doesn't always work exactly how you wanted it to.
And no, my camera doesn't have anything like that in the custom functions, but like I said, i'm not too worried about it. I like the way mine does it better anyway.

Snave...I almost gave you Legendary status...Until you said it was Smirnoff Norsk...
I haven't heard of it till now...But its the same look as the Smirnoff tripple distilled, highly alcoholic vodka which tastes better than the normal red bottle...
But no
Still woulda been fun, just not Legendary fun

'Tis time I posted my picture.
Hay guise I'm looking at my computer screen.

OMFG, the rain clouds that are like one year overdue. Fucking drought.

And finally, my fuzzy face smiling.

And for those of you who thought I was 15, wake up and meet the real, 12 year old Paul.

This thread is why 14-year-olds are looked down on on the internet.Proclaimer001 wrote:It's going to take more than one drunk prostitiute to bring down ShamWoW Guy!

Also we have lots of street racers pouring into are town now, from what i see they don't were a monicle they look gangsta with all that gangsta crap and like totaly tricked out cars i saw the begining of a race to i am happy.
but guess what happened next. to cops saw the starting of the race and nearly crashed twice getting out of the parking lot to get them. the cops did not succeed to my knowledge.

I still need to find a monocle. Then I'll take a picture of myself in my car, looking like a speedy speed boy.
(for extra win points, have a top hat with a cigar [cigar optional as smoking is stupid])
