strange phone call

I was watching tv past midnight and then my cell began to ring, on the caller id it said:000-000-0000. then when i answered it there wasn't anyone there. I tried calling the number back but it said the number didn't exist.

Can anyone explain this to me?

SRY for double post but now i got a voice mail from im being sincere when i say how can going under a stick stop 000-000-0000 and it was a strange gurgling/howling sound or something

The caller ID has been covered up, My dad's company uses it It does it so you can't call them back or get there number. it was probally some company. i have never seen all zeros normally its like 000-0000-001

Oh well if they really needed to talk to you they would call back.

and also please clearify your second post. and next time edit your first one

I dont know about 000-0000-000 but i get calls from my area code alot. (555) for example.

is wasnt 000-000-0001, it was exactly 000-000-0000, plus read my double post, the message was sort of a howling mixed with gurgling.

000-000-0000 Is normally what a hitman uses before doing his business.

A few seconds on Google:

Those are computer generated calls. The computer records the call and if someone answers, then the company knows when someone is home and available to answer calls.

Also, it's not hard to spoof caller ID at all. It could be someone playing a prank, or it could be a telemarketer. Point is, it's nothing out of the ordinary really.

Yea... It's a prank call.. Along time ago I found out phoneprank.com (Or something like that) called using 000-000-0000. I tested it on myself.. xD

EDIT: :O! It was actually called callprank.com, but it looks like they got shut down.

But seriously, it's no big deal. Nobody here is going to be able to give you an answer better than the ones already posted. It's a dummy number to mask the caller, but it is not something that warrants a thread. Fun is over.
