Upgrading a computer

Post by DrXThirst »

Ok, I am also going to get an upgrade for the desktop that I am on right now. The specs on this computer are below -

===========================================

Processor : Pentium 4 3.0ghz w/HyperThreading
RAM : 1GB
Video Card : 256mb ATI Radeon X1550 series

===========================================

Here are my choices :
There are many combinations of what I should get.

RAM : I want 4GB, and dell offers a 1GB stick for $50, so I could get 4 of those for 200 dollars.

-or-

I could get a new processor.

What should I get? It has to stay under 600 dollars. (Any combination you give me.)

Did you ever think about if your motherboard can handle a newer processor with a different chipset and socket type? :?

Why you want 4GB of ram is beyond me. 2GB is plenty for most games. 3GB is fine, but I think 4GB is ridiculous. Alas, it's not my money so I can't tell you otherwise.

If your motherboard works with the $300 Quad-Core from Intel, I'd get that, 2GB of RAM and a GeForce 79050GT.

Be careful with your processor. I stupidly forgot to check my motherboard and ordered the wrong socket type processor >_>, it took NewEgg a whole month to send me the right one.

Is the 1GB of RAM 2x512? If not, just an extra gig, and a new processor. Also, unless you're running 34254523 Programs at once on Vista ultimate, 4GB of RAM is kind of Useless. also, nVidia GeForce 8600 GT/GTS?

Edited. mmkay cryticfarm?

lol. Well, I was hoping that it would allow me to use the bsp viewer. Because when going through the bsp viewer on some HUGE SP BSPs, my computer gets like uber laggy. And if I stay in one SP>MP BSP conversion BSP Viewer too long, then my computer gets extremely laggy. Also, how do I get FULL specs on my computer? I don't know what type of ram I have, but I know that its 2x512mb.
