How Halo 3 Modding could work...

So far, we know how to make exact replicas of Xbox games, and i think the same with 360 games, involving raw dump, cd image, and whatnot. Since we can't mod Halo 3 using ftp or xsata or xport because there is no map pack download, (its all in the disc), we'll just have to burn a disc with the modded maps in it, and it should work. The only thing in the way is the absence of Halo 3 modding programs, we'll have to do it off of hex at first, but as soon as the programs are made, things will get easier.

bsp editing for halo 3 is already in the works i mean for making an app that can do it and as for the disc yes your right we will have to make illegal copies of it to mod the maps i think very few and far inbetween will actually mod halo 3 with the map maker that is going to be on the game there isn't too much need to mod it unless you feel like cheating

:? my thing though is how accessable will it be for people to mod it cause i really hope it gets easier to mod 360's soon cause i want to mess with halo 3's physics engine.

Indeed, the lag factor is really low on a 360...

There are halo 3 apps in the works.

I hope h3core wont be like Prometheus's, I mean at launch I really want scripting features.... I just hope they disable campaign scripting cause then all the eggs will be uncovered

physics engine ftw lol. idk you can add a mod chip to a 360 but " if roumers are correct " it will automatically ban you from live so weigh modding vs live?
I think i'll just stick to halo 2 modding and trying to make most of the halo 3 stuff available for halo 2 and well if we can get the h2v map maker to work for xbox i'd say i wouldn't play halo 3 that much lol except for campaign

Meh, I kinda dislike the idea of a modded 360, Seeing as it's always being updating and such. I'm fine with using XSata on the HDD though, so hopefully the DLC will come soon-ish after the initial release :P

Ugh.. something else which is kinda dodgy, not only is the process (taking apart your disc drive just to remove the spinning CD) an annoyance, but also seeing as Microsoft are banning for playing 'backups' right now, unless you got iXtreme, but how long will that firmware hold out..

Obviously yes, otherwise there is no point to the program. If the map format stays the same as in the beta then we should be good, seeing as a few of us have already made editors for it.
