where is that found, where do I go to null it out, and what tag is it in?

EDIT: its in the shader tag, specularity, found it

EDIT2: i can't null out the 3p model's reflection, any other ideas?

i think the cubemap is in the "shiny" shader

Shader swap.

Don't say that to people who don't know where cubemaps are! They'll make it all ugly >_> oh; and yea >_> you need to probaly shdaer swap since nulling it can cause it the black screen and changing it to a 'normal' bitmaps will just give you a broken cubemap; so... you need to use another guns shader, and swap its bitmaps around with those of the carbines. that should do it. or just have messed up UV mapping >_>

Damn trees >_>

minuscule bump-mapped tree's FTW!

Possible colour values in the shader?
The string id of shiny?
A reflectionmap?
and you've said the specularity.

I also don't see how a reflection map could give you the BSOD. Just doesn't seem right.

Rule of thumb: Never null bitmaps in a shader, always shad swap and relink the bitmaps you actually want.

why dont you guys just try it out before saying stuff, just skin the carbine real quick and see if your hypothosis will work on it for 3p

You're right, we who posted here to help you know nothing about skinning.

Good luck: I would imagine you're on your own now....

you don't have to, im just asking before you say it so that i can know it works

Shader swaps have never failed me (even with the carbine blade 3rd person). Find a shader that has the properties you want, and use it. Make sure the shader's bitmap, though, is the same as the one used in the original carbine shader.

It works. If it doesn't work for you, you're not doing it the right way.

Swap the shader in the Model's tag, I believe.

The End

what properties? and also which shader should i switch? all of the carbine shaders?

EDIT: i just changed the shader to a cloned spectre torn_up shader and placed the carbine bitmap over the spectre's torn_up bitmap. but which shaders do i switch in the mode?

mebbe you should switch it with the dull one

yeah but i first need to know what "properties" i need to find in a shader, as chad says

wow man if you cant get that from the best skinners around you will never learn it and trust me i had to learn it to respect people like fox they are all good skinners almost everybody who posted in your topic now go through the page a few times and you should get it if you read carefully if not we tried

By "properties" I mean the aspects of a texture you like. Some textures are dull, some are glossy, some have bumps, some are smooth, some glow, yada yada yada. Everything but the actual picture (.dds file) used for the texture is a "property" I speak of (many of which can have custom content injected in their place and all of which can be swapped). Play Halo 2, look at textures (not just the .dds file), and find one you want. Inject that shader into the map you want, and swap the shader you're having issues with that one. Follow the steps I listed above and you should have what you want.

To help you see what I mean by "properties" again, here's a picture of what they look like in DotHalo:

but, what about those other shaders, like lod, and switch, and switch illuminated, and all that? what about those, will they still be there? if so, how would i get them to stay in there?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but if you want certain properties within a shader, find a shader that has what you want and use it. We need to get out of the mindframe that one object has only one shader reserved for it. The reason any object has the shader it has is because Bungie wanted it to look that way it does. If you want it to look differently, you need to think beyond what Bungie wanted, explore, and find the right shader for you.

what i was saying is that the carbine has different shaders, not just one, and they all go together. so i need to find one with as many shaders as the original
