How do i change the default starting weapons without changing the gametype and so on?

Go to the scrn tag. Right click> idents. Look for the starting equipment chunk.

i found it and changed it but no luck with it.

You have to change the ITMC tags of the scnr not the weap tags

Also, when you actually play the map, make sure that you have starting weapon set to 'map default'.

oh wait. that might have been the problem.
i changed the secondary weapon to a weap tag not an itmc tag.
