So I've been in the modding scene for the Xbox for a very long time... And just most recently, the Halo 2 modding scene. I haven't read many tutorials but I'm doing that as you actually read this. The question for you is simple.
I have a very small HDD on the xbox I'm going to be modding Halo 2, Which means I cannot copy the game to the HDD. So my question to you, and the rest of the modding community, is what can I do with what I have already got? What are the best mods that I'm allowed to do without copying the full game to my Xbox? I'm hoping for a lot... and maybe you can enlighten me.

"noob" Question.
Re: "noob" Question.
Very simply put, you don't need every map (in the 'maps' folder). Just transfer everything across apart that folder, then make a folder called 'maps'.z00k wrote:So I've been in the modding scene for the Xbox for a very long time... Now in here you will need to have the mainmenu.map (for obvious reasons) and also the 'fonts' folder. Finally, there are two 'special maps' which are basically 'external references'; one is called 'shared.map' which is needed to play any multiplayer maps, and the other is 'single_player_shared.map' which is obviously needed for singleplayer maps (the campaign).
So you'll probably want to transfer over the shared map too, and not bother with the other. The only other maps that you can worry about transferring across now are those that you have applied a mod too =x

So basically I can transfer those maps over to my xbox and still mod them without copying the whole game over? Is that correct? So if I transfer those maps over to my xbox HDD and pop in the halo 2 cd... it will read those files from the hdd or... no?
Still a little confused but I do appreciate the very fast response!

You copy the whole game over minus the campaign maps, mp maps and the single_player_shared map (so just the 'fonts' folder, mainmenu.map and shared.map).z00k wrote:So basically I can transfer those maps over to my xbox and still mod them without copying the whole game over? Is that correct?
Every map has a corresponding .map file in the 'maps' directory. So by not transferring over all the maps (apart from the needed ones) when you do try to play lockout for example.. you'll just get an error.
That is until you have a modified lockout map file, and you transfer that across (just an example..)
Eh.. thought you said you'd been in the 'modding scene for the Xbox for a very long time'.. obviously you would then just play the game straight from the HDD, by selecting it on the dashboard. Use the CD, and the xbox will just use the CD, regardless of whats on your HDD.z00k wrote:So if I transfer those maps over to my xbox HDD and pop in the halo 2 cd... it will read those files from the hdd or... no?

Original+Mimesis, My personal mod, Killtrocity 1 and 2 lol Its all a matter of making space, you may also want to check if u have a certain xbox hdd as i do, you can format F: drive and get another 2 gigs and as Prey said, Dont copy the single player maps and singleplayershared.map and ull save A LOT of space lol
Don't be.

Alright, After a little work I have got everything on my xbox from halo 2 (After deleting a few Romsets... *Sigh*)
Anyway, Now on to official Halo Modding.
Question is now, from earlier... What is the best mods that I can apply to Halo 2?
I would like to be dazzled ... See things that are amazing... Experience new weapons, etc.... without any huge headaches. I have checked out here and se7ensins and a few other sites... I was wondering, what is the best patches, Map Packs, Main menu edits... Just need everyones own honest opinion of what they think is well... The best.
