an interesting question

does anybody think that halo 2 for vista map files would basically be the same as xbox ones?

my idea is that when H2 Vista comes out, people could get the 2 exclusive maps district & uplift & mod them into halo 2 for xbox. i would assume all you would have to do is put the maps into your maps folder and edit your main menu. please someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Halo 2 Vista is built/going to be built on the Halo 2 engine (or something very similar), isn't it? If that's true, I don't think the Vista maps will be much different than Halo 2 ones. That doesn't necessarily mean we'll be able to run them on Halo 2/open them in editors, however.

I'd assume so. Several games made for xbox where also released for the PC, and their console counter-part usually has a very similar if not identicle file structure.

So I assume that the H2 PC maps can be made playable on the xbox with little if no effort.

Just don't get your hopes up. Bungie may have made some changes to the game structure that may not allow it.

I believe that this time around, they put alot of work into changing the map structure, otherwise it wouldn't of taken them so long to do it. Now I'm not surewhat all they did, but we'll see in a week.

Yeah hopefully there wasnt to much changes. But from the sound of it I think most changes would have happened in the engine and not the map files, but we will have to wait and see...

yeah i really hope that they'll work. district and uplift look wayyyy bigger than any other halo 2 map. or at least around the size of containment or relic. they look way better to me than desolation and tombstone.

also if the maps are compatible, there would be an huge increase in playable maps from people making them with the built in editor.

Okay, let's say that they do.

Why would you want to put them on the Xbox? If you have them on the PC, then play them on PC, since you can use a mouse and keyboard as opposed to a controller

But, to answer your question, it depends on whether or not Bungie's big brother decides to manhandle the game before it is released. As it seems, Bungie has no problem with modding whatsoever. It's M$ that does. Mind you, I have respect for them, but look at it from their point of view. If you fund an incredible project and people want to tear it apart, would you be happy?

I dunno. It suppose it WOULD be cool if we could port them to Xbox.

See, whenever you hear Bungie bashing modders, they're talking about the cheaters in matchmaking who run fast, have 360 degrees of auto-aim shooting out sniper bullets faster than an smg. They don't think of reverse-engineerers, or people *attempting* to make new maps.

well i don't have a massively awesome gaming rig. my comp is crap for running games, unless we're talking zdoom. haha. so if i was able to play maps created for vista on my xbox just by doing a little main menu editing, that would be pretty nice.

i'm assuming that Bungie and Microsoft both know that if they release the game for the PC, then the modding floodgates open. and we'll see how badly Windows Vista Live gets hit with H2Vista modders. cheating on vista live will be way more rampant than on xbox live. so i don't think that the fundamental game files would be different. if they are, hopefully it would only be the executable (obviously) and maybe other files (like the font & sound files).

bad example, but if you look at super mario war, all of the other files are the same for pc and xbox except the executables. obviously i shouldn't compare similarites to a homebrew game on different platforms to a professionally made game released on a console and pc.

H2V won't have a cheat mod problem cause it ships with a map creator...so modding it would be pointless

Can you put Halo PC maps on the Xbox and play them with halo 1? No.
Probably not with Halo 2 either. But then again, you never know...

after all bungies work with halo 1, pc, halo 2, halo 3, etc. i dont think they will bother to change the structure of the engine to much. so if we can make a program that would set aside those differences from the halo 2 xbox engine and the H2V engine we could convert them

well supposedly i just heard that H2Vista might be pushed back to the 23th, instead of coming out on the 8th. i'm not sure how reliable that info is, but thought everyone would like to know, in case they didn't.

Not surprising. Bungie does have quite the habbit of pushing dates back. >.<
