Question about converted maps

I'm curious about these converted campaign maps? How does this work, do they just do portions of the maps, if so what happens when you get to the edge? How big are these going to be anyway? I take it these are just for playing MP style games on right, no AI in them like the actual missions (unless painstakingly added?). Again I apologize if these questions sound stupid but from what I've been reading in the forums it went from "SP maps cannot be converted into MP maps" to "We're making a conversion map pack, who wants in?" type of thing LOL.
