How to format the preview .dds mainmenu pics.... HELP

First off, let me say I've gotten a lot of pics working in the mainmenu, just none of them were formatted correctly with the border and all.
I have the template. Now, I thought I knew how to get it to work but it's just not working out for me. When I look at the finished product on the tv, it's garbled. It's in four or five sections running diagonally. I'll outline everything I'm doing... Please lmk what I'm doing wrong.
1.) Open template.
2.) Open image(224x207)
3.) Drag the image into the template. Close image window.
4.) Highlight everything showing in the template window
5.) Right click on the "Layer Mask Thumbnail" icon over on the right side. Select "Subtract Layer Mask From Selection."
6.) Bring the image layer into focus and hit delete
7.) Save image as .dds (8:8:8:8 ARGB 32 bit - No MIP Tags)
Please help me out. Thanks.
