You can swap the sky, and to darken the Map use the UberLighmapTool.

Okay I used the uberlighttool to darken the surroundings, and now I moved the contents of the [sky] tag in midship.map to the [sky] tag of headlong using insolence. Now the [sky] tag of headlong contains scenarios/skies/multi/headlong/headlong AND scenarios/skies/multi/midship/midship_sky. Do I have to delete /headlong, or rename /midship_sky, fix or alter something else in the .map? Is it just fine how it is?
Please tell me what to do and how to do it. Thanks.

DOESNT WORK

Post by Annoyingredpie »

Ok I fixed the scer tag or whatever so it goes midship/midship_sky, but now the map doesn't work. I think it's cause I have the 1.2 patch so inserting things not origionally in the map gives a "failed to load" message. ppf's don't even work for me. Swapping things are fine (like swapping projectiles, altering property values) but changing the size of the .map file AT ALL will not work. I think if I can find a way to delete the headlong sky under the [sky] tag MIGHT work, but if this doen't even give me a chance of working, could someone tell me how to downgrade to 1.1 using the map pack CD? do I just delete the E/TDATA/something64 file then run the CD? (I may downgrade anyway because i would really, REALLY, like to get the .ppf's to work)

Thanks

You CAN change the sky even with the 1.2 update on, I did i thousands of times. The only reason the 'Failed to load map' should come up is becouse you forget or didn't sighn the map right. If you messed up something in the map, it would freeze, not come up with the message. Anyways, to change to sky, did you make sure you went into the scnr tag, and under the sky reflexive, swapped the headlong sky to the other one. And you don't have to delete the headlong sky, that won't do anything. And whatever you do, don't delete the folder with the updates! All you have to do is re-name it, and then the updates are off, and to turn them back on, just re-name it back. Here is how you do that:

Go onto your Xbox files then go to "/E/TDATA/4d530064" (without the quotations), then once your there, there should be a folder names "$U", just re-name that to anything els, like off, and that will turn the updates off. To turn them back on, just rename the folder back to $U.

If your still having problems, be more specific and explain what ur doing, and i'll see what i can do, and stuff, yeah.

yeah i did resign it. used Encryptomatic sig, and I DID redirect the thing under the scnr tag. I STILL get the "failed to load" message. I still dont get why it won't work, and .ppf's should work too according to you... ok I just don't get it :( Ill try swapping a wep in dothalo then resign it using dothalo's resigner.
about being more specific:
1. used uberlightmaptool to adjust
2. resigned w/ uberlightmap's resigner
3. checked forums.
4. used insolence to inject midship_sky
5. checked forums again
6. redirected the sky- under the scnr tag to midship_sky in insolence
7. closed map
8. opened encryptomatic and resigned map
9. transferred modded map to xbox via FTP
10. got "failed to load" message

Ok. I also want to know if the map your modding is a new map, becouse if it's a new map, you need to resign it using CMR (that's the only way it will work). Also, i want to know if you added this map to the main menu, i might be able to solve your problem. Also, you could've also messed the map up soo much that Halo 2 doesn't recognize it as a map anymore, did you do anything to the map throgh HEX editing?

between 6 and sevem, fix map signature

and depending on the map u might need to use coolspot resigner

do i have to resign in insolence? does it have a resigner? encryptomatic doesn't work? can i inject the sky, close insolence, open dothalo, reassign the scnr tag, and resign with dothalo?

Every modding program has a resign option. So for whatever change you made, sign the map in the program you made the change in, you don't need to use any separate sighning program. So if you did something in Incolence, you would go up to MAP OPTION in the top letf, and click Fix Encription, If you did something in DotHalo, you would to to map tool and click Fix Encription, if you did something in Entity, you would click Sighn Map.

registered, and only tut for skies restated exactly what I did. might it be because the map with the injected sky is about 700kbs larger?

Please don't double post or triple post or anything, you have three posts right after one another, just edit your other post.

Ok, that description on how to darken the map with ADI is pretty crap.

Image
Ok, I think i put the plugin in the right spot (as you can see in the picture above)

Image
But as you can see, i can't click on the 'lightbulb' which i need to edit my map, i don't get it.

Ok, if this doesn't work, you either really fucked up your map or your stupid, or both. :D

Holy crap, I haven't seen someone have so much trouble just by having a 'Failed to load map'. Sorry dude.

yup, it dont work at all. heck, I put the .dll into every folder of that program, and I dont even get a shadowy lightbulb. I think my 'box has a general problem injecting data at all. I'll start a new topic regarding that.

The thing that everyone here should've suggested in the first place is to start over with a clean map and try it again. Sometimes Insolence will mess up a transfer. Or it could just be that the midship sky is no good for headlong.
It doesn't matter if you resign after every step. The map's signature is an algorithm applied to the map as a whole, so you can go through making changes in as many different aps as you want and you only need to resign it right before you put it on the xbox.

[edit] Well I just took a look at the skies' bounding box's and midship's is much larger than headlong's. I doubt that's a problem, though. Is there a problem, maybe with using a spherical sky on a map that's meant to have a dome shaped one? I've never tried, so... dunno'.
