Slow To Load Skin

I injected a dodgeball skin over the skin of a coconut on Zanzibar. However, after I shoot a coconut, it takes the coconut a couple (like 10 seconds) to show the skin I created. Before the skin loads, the coconut is just black. Once the skin shows up, if I walk too far away from the coconut, it just turns black again. Anyone know what's wrong? Thanks

Try clearing your cache. Just FTP and delete everything in your X, Y, and Z drives.

I tried that and it didn't help at all... Any other ideas? Could the file be too big (too much detail)? I don't know, I'm out of ideas.

When you save the skin as a .dds did you save it with MIP maps. This may be the problem at least to it turning black at a distance.

It is saved with MIP maps... It's weird because you will shoot the coconuts and they will be black for a while and if you continue to shoot em, in a couple minutes, they will come out the way they are supposed to be (yellow with text on em). However, if you don't shoot for a while, they will turn black again.

hunt around for an app called Halo 2 Machinima Companion

it will lock the LOD of the skin to max, so it shouldent appear black anymore.

The machinima companion wasn't intended to fix the skin problem but It seems to do the trick quite nicely anyway.

All it's doing is locking the LOD on the highest level / the first mipmap. So basically the bad mipmaps are just never shown. This is harder on the XBox CPU though, so be careful.

You should try to clear your Cache. That might work.
