hi guys, i snagged all the hek videos and realised that they were for ce. does the same basic principal apply to building a halo 2 map? there arent many tuts on building a map on halo 2... come to think of it, i havent found any. anyone sucessfully built their own halo 2 map... not starting with an orignal map?

The only map I know of is "Induction" And that was mainly created by Hex editing. Currently, unless your really smart in hexing, there is no way to rebuild a level.

it has been done once by The Swamp Fox but he's been the only one to do it for halo2 yet

Well Swamp fox did a bsp conversion wich in essence makes induction its own NEW level yet i think dcaway is asking if its possible to build a halo2 level from scratch now if bungie released their map tools they use then maybe we could but right now i dont think so

if we had the map tools, we could play an all out war between heavily armed pigeons and hippies somwehere on the moon.
but seriously making a map from scratch means making mc, his way he moves, the triggers, everything, sounds, to textures. That will take a lot of work, like making the game all over again. It's best to just use an old map, and convert maybe BSP's in the future, new models, and even one day, new animations.
Building a new map from scratch means making a whole new game.

well, i wasnt really looking to build all new models/weapons/equipment, just borrow models and weapons from existing maps... i just want to build a huge level with different sections... a sniping section, hog racing section, shotgun section, ect. ect... you get the point. orignally i just wanted to add to the top of coag, but once i started viewing the HEK vid tuts, it seemed easy enough... i mean halo/halo 2/halo pc/ce are all built on the same engine arent they?

That might lag...alot...Having like 8 different arena's in one map.

to make a new sbsp you would have to understand how it works, thoroughly.
and it's hard when you only have the end result, none of the tools that bungie used to make thier maps. so you can get reverse enginering, you may want to take a look at dark matter and see how it interprets sbsps.

no, not really, because most of that raw data is located in the shared maps.

You could wait for Prometheus. It will be able to take user created data and make it into tags and formats that the halo 2 engine can use(and the different versions of halo have different updates of the same engine. Halo xbox is the oldest in the series, halo pc is next and then halo 2.)
