I'm Ready To Become A Modder! Looking for advice and info!

I heard that generally modding my box won't cost me more than around 30 dollars and that the things I want to do won't be hard to learn, so I'm going for it. What I want to do with my modded xbox is to alter basic aspects of Halo 2. Typically ones that have to do with multiplayer game balance, so I could craft my own ideal version of a balanced multiplayer and use it with my freinds. Of course, I must remind everyone that I do not wish to recieve info on how I could take these alternations to xbox live and cheat, so don't mention it. I want this so I can create a multiplayer balance that Bungie never implemented.

Here's some of the stuff I hope to mess with...

  • -Altering weapon strengths, firing rates, ranges, & reload times

    -Increasing/Decreasing a weapons pull-out time & put-away time

-Altering a guns' projectile speeds and their level of homing

-Altering a vehicles/turrets level of defense & attack power

-Altering weapon & vehicle spawn points in specific ways

-Modding so Blue team & Red team spawn with different nades/guns

-Modding so Blue team can only use certain guns/vehicles & vise versa

If you haven't caught on yet, I'll admit that one of the things I wish to implement with my modded box are very accurate Elite vs Spartan games, where each side can only use the appropriate equipment. I'd have to be able to tweak the weapons enough where each team would be balanced, though (standard functions would have the Elite side raped). I was also wondering if it'd be possible to do specific things like modding a rule where holding the rocket launcher took longer to take out/put away and made you walk slower, or to shorten the dash-kill range of the sword.

Now, here are the big questions to experienced modders that wish to help me and give me any insight...

  • -Where would I want to order my mod chip from?

-What kind of chip would I need to do this and how much would it cost?

-Would it be hard to put the chip in my box? Do I need experience?

-Could I even do these things with a mod chip; is this even possible?

-Would doing these things be easy, or does it take a modding genius?

-How can I use my modded games on a LAN so my freinds can play?

-Would modding my box this way ruin my ability to play on Xbox Live?

Thanks in advance to any experienced modder who may help me with my modding process. My AIM screenname is THE George Bush if any modder wants to help me out.

There are very very many different combo's for types of mods to do to an xbox. You should probably do a softmod. That is what will cost around $30.
You need to go to www.xbox-scene.com to learn about that. Asking here could get you flammed. You don't need experience to do a softmod; all you need is a good brain and the will to read and search and not ask people to spoon feed things to you.

Most of the things you want to do shouldnt be too hard; although someone just released what they think would be a more balanced halo 2 over in the files forum.

I do not know if you can edit what teams spawn with. I do know you can edit differences between mastercheifs and aliens(you could even play as some characters from single player).

Lots of the things you want to do are pretty easy. Most of the things you want to do would work in system link on a LAN so that other people would not need to change anything. Some things might (character speeds, reload time, etc.)

With a softmod you can turn off the softmod and be able to play on xbox live with no mods. If you do not do this correctly you could get banned off of Xbox live.

I hope this helps.

You will be able to get online with a mod chip i would go with the xecuter 3 or the xenium SP if i were you. I have an xenium in mine and it works great. For the setting up differences for the blue team you would probably be editing game types with a program called Sav3r to do that stuff and everything thing else you can do by modding the maps with halo 2 map modding programs on your computer. All modding is done on the computer then you send it to your xbox.
