Understanding the Possibilities and Limits of Halo 2 Modding

Hey, yeah, I'm a newb, but this topic is still critical to me.

I'm trying to figure out just what is reality of Halo 2 modding. To me, the concept of creating your own weapons, vehicles, maps and skins to be playable for Halo 2 on a modified box seems incredible. There is nothing in the world I want more than to see people's own creations, from scratch, put into Halo 2. But I get the feeling I'm not thinking on the right level here.

Is it possible to design and create your own working flamethrower, and implement it into the engine? What about your own combat motorcycle? Or a working flyable Pelican? Could a talented modder create a player model of a Grunt with a first person view only 5 feet off the ground with visable blue, stubby arms? Could someone put those giant Covenant-artillery guns that never did anything into a multiplayer map, and have them fire off massive plasma bombs? All of these are just things I pulled off the top of my head, and I want to know if stuff like that is far beyond what Halo 2 modding is about.

Thanks alot to anyone who helps me out in discovering what the hell Halo 2 Mods is all about.

Model injections aren't very possible now, so you can't really make your own stuff from scratch. However, it is possible to duplicate something, change its skin, remove some parts of the model, and change how it behaves.

Putting a flamethrower in Halo2? No.
New vehicle like ATV or motorbike? No.
Golden Hog with no turret? Yes (because the hog model exists already)
Flyable Pelican? Yes (All you need to do is de-disable the seat and change the animation for getting it).
Covenant Arterrilly Gun thing? Yes. Heck, there's even an AR save of controlling one in campaign.

well i saw a mod with a flamethrower but its wasnt a true flamethrower but it had some nice effects theres alot of thing u can do in halo 2.

However model injection isnt possible yet....and until prometheus comes out we cant make lvls from scratch or look at the levels in 3d.

I hope this helps in your quest for answers.
