I have a modchip, and I also tried softmodding using the mechassault exploit.
This might be due to an outdated kernal of linux for the softmod, but with the softmodding I found it was difficult to always get the mod to your xbox and have it working. The cable was fine, sometimes the map failed to load though. *Not due to not resigning*.
You can do a bit more with a modchip than with a softmodded xbox afaik. Installing the Xecuter 2.6 chip is piss easy, get the xapter and you'll have no problems.
I found that the old games used for exploits are hard to come by now, and usually actually sell for quite a high price on ebay.
With the modchip you have a nice dashboard, can customize the gui, and it has a much nicer feel than the exploit. This may not affect you but you get a much greater sense of acheivement once you've succesfully chipped your xbox. the 2.6 xecuter isn't the best, but it's a good price and easy to use and install. I would reccomend a modchip over an exploit. Installing a chip is safe to do. Don't get me wrong, I was about 13 when I installed my chip, I managed to install a 80gb HDD aswell with no severe problems. The only real problem I had was locking/unlocking the HDD. Using xbins you can get an auto installer, it's really easy to use.
I now benefit from *backed up* games, homebrew, N64 emulators, GBA emulators, the works, I would always choose a chip over an exploit.
Unrelated, a team has found a way to exploit the wii so you can play *backed up* disks, not released yet. It was somewhere on engadget.
You can always try the exploit as I did, but you might be finding youself going for the chip afterwards. I would avoid spending money on both and just get the chip.
Sorry, im not good at constructing sentences very well :S

I heavily dislike softmodding. More than once(Three times) I rebooted the Xbox without putting a dashboard in the correct location. So as of this moment, I have 3 Xbox 1's that do nothing. I really need a chip, but I don't have any cash. I would LOVE a gold Xenium but that chip is so damn rare and expensive. I have a working one anyways. If anyone has an old chip they do not use, I would love to borrow it. I would leave you with enough personal info on me you could contact me no matter what happens. I just really want these fixed and do not have a way.

Xenium Golds are rare? Wow, when I got mine, you could buy them in a 1000 pack at once...jordanimal wrote:I heavily dislike softmodding. Softmodding is hardly responsible for that. The installer will automatically put the dashboard in the correct place, which means the only reason you'd have an issue is something you changed, which you could change with a chip as well. 100% operator error.jordanimal wrote:More than once(Three times) I rebooted the Xbox without putting a dashboard in the correct location.
They can be easily repaired with the same method used to first softmod the console. Just boot the game and install a dashboard through the exploit.jordanimal wrote:So as of this moment, I have 3 Xbox 1's that do nothing.
Then softmod it, but don't try to do something that you have failed at three times and still can't figure out.jordanimal wrote:I really need a chip, but I don't have any cash.
Why would you buy an outdated product? It's been discontinued. The Xecuters are current, which means you'll have more support with them and ease of finding.jordanimal wrote:I would LOVE a gold Xenium but that chip is so damn rare and expensive.
What? Why would you need one then?jordanimal wrote:I have a working one anyways.
I still don't see why you would want someone to give you a free product when you could not only mod the console yourself with materials you already have.jordanimal wrote:If anyone has an old chip they do not use, I would love to borrow it.
Boot the game without going to the dash, launch the exploit save, install dashboard. It's very simple.jordanimal wrote:I just really want these fixed and do not have a way.

I understand that it put it in the right place. Completely comprehend that it is 100% my issue.Tural wrote:Softmodding is hardly responsible for that. Well, this is where my issue starts. I moved all of the E: drive to my PC and erased it, then rebooted. Once again, I know this is my mistake.Tural wrote:They can be easily repaired with the same method used to first softmod the console. I had figured it out. I wanted a different dashboard than what I had on my Memory Card, so I would go through the process. The 3 are messed up from different reasons, all similarly related.Tural wrote:Then softmod it, but don't try to do something that you have failed at three times and still can't figure out.jordanimal wrote:I really need a chip, but I don't have any cash.
But hasn't the chip been the same exact hardware for a long time ? I guess it was just the gold that caught attention. The Xecuters do have some cool extra hardware.Tural wrote:Why would you buy an outdated product? It's been discontinued. Well I would like to fix them. Not just have bricks. I would like a personal webserver separate from my PC and do not have money. A lot of various things I could do with them.Tural wrote:What? Why would you need one then?jordanimal wrote:I have a working one anyways.
The Bios would allow me access to the hard drive to fix where I had previously made mistakes. I know each mistake well, and how to fix it. I was young and didn't pay much attention to what I was doingTural wrote:I still don't see why you would want someone to give you a free product when you could not only mod the console yourself with materials you already have.jordanimal wrote:If anyone has an old chip they do not use, I would love to borrow it.
It would work except for the save files are not on the hard drives. Further explanation:Tural wrote:Boot the game without going to the dash, launch the exploit save, install dashboard. It's very simple.jordanimal wrote:I just really want these fixed and do not have a way.
First Xbox - I had it set to look for a dashboard on the E: drive and thought it was the other way around and then rebooted. Therefor an unbootable Xbox.
Second Xbox - A friend gave it to me after he failed to mod it. It still had the save files. So I wiped the E: drive, keeping the saves and putting them on the F:, and forgot to back them up from the F: before rebooting.
Third Xbox - I tried to make my own shortcut XBE and it did not work. At all, obviously.
My current one has no issues and is running XBMC as my main dashboard. I bought that one for 50$ from a kid and modded it to use as a nice living room media player.
But, I do get your point. I made stupid mistakes that, now, I would not make. I have tried Hot Swap, but I guess more or less, I do not fully comprehend how to do a Hot Swap properly (although it seems an easy task.)

My point is with a chip, none of my mistakes would have ever been an issue. The slightest mistake and you have a brick. With a chip, this is not possible unless you attempt to modify the chip.Tural wrote:So we've established that there is virtually no basis for your claims that softmodding is somehow more detrimental, despite it not actually causing the problems.

Well see I need a dashboard to transfer the saves to the Hard Drive, which it doesn't have. And Splinter Cell will not read the saves off of the memory card. I have no way of FTPing. Unless Mech Assault will read the saves off of the card I have no way of doing it (Although I do not have a copy of Mech Assault, I have experience with the exploits available for it and SC. Quite the opposite for 007.)

As long as your xbox is un-corrupted to the point that it can boot games, the AID dsc would be perfect for you. If you can't see game saves or save them, then you MUST use the AID disc.
oh, and if you do, just remember, must of the stuff is outdated, but you'll at least be able to FTP and everything from any dash.

I softmodded my xbox, and it worked perfectly.
Maybe I got lucky, because I never received the impression that it was "unstable," which people here seem to be implying.
I would do some research though, it is entirely possible that softmodding doesn't work for over 50% of attempts.

It is expected, and demanded.Tural wrote:MrMurder, we're going to hold you to that promise.
