maybe if you made your own halo 2 cd, but you couldnt use that live if thats what your try'n to do.you cant change the map that already burned onto a cd.
you dont have a softmodded xbox. all you have is a games save. if it was softmodded the dash would be installed on your xbox, and you wouldnt need mecassault in there. got to www.xbox-scene.com and finish modding your xbox.
The problem is I still want the ability to go on Live when I don't have my maps modded. If I flashed to BIOs, I wouldn't be able to get back on Live... would I? Maybe I'm just a noob...
The only other way to play original maps on ur box without saving halo 2 to it, is to mod the map then open a hex editor and change the name of the map. For example change it from like "scenarios\multi\lockout\lockout" to "scenarios\multi\halo\warlock\warlock" then resign the map to the warlock [or whatever map name that you made] signature, then ftp to ur box and overwrite the current one.
Edit: I think that there is a program that changes the scenario names for you but im not sure what it is. So if you can't get it to work in hex[although it should] then try to find one of those programs.
yeah there is a program for that i think. but he cant even get the maps if he has to have mechassault in the drive.(does a comp read the disc?) then the only thing he could do to play the new map online is custon and only with people who did the same thing he did.
You dont need mechasault in if you just choose "install UXE" from the settings menu. And then you could save part of the maps to your harddrive just enough to be able to play ahlo2 and you dont need the campaign. Then you could fit it there.
nifebender:
I just used the cache003.map file. Edited the map first (just a couple mods to map sure it would work), then used the hex editor, then renamed the file itself from cache003.map to warlock.map, then finally resigned it as warlock.
