Well...I'm considering getting XBConnect...is there actually a lot of people who play? I mainly want it for halo 1 legit (Like good ole days) and Modded Halo like Killtrocity mappack/Killtrocity2, etc. Can anyone who has it tell me if there is a good bit of modded h2's/h1's and legit halo 1 games for it? OR should I even get Kai? I use XBMC as my dash and it has the XlinkKai feature built in, but I'm sure it won't affect the XBC any....or should I just download both to do it?

it never hurts to download and install both. i did, but i only use xbc. but that's just a personal preference. the XLink Kai UI in XBMC is pretty much pointless, you can join or host a game, and it will boot up halo for you. but if you wanna leave that host, you have to restart your xbox, which is a total pain, instead of just backing out to the system link screen and looking for another host.

as for the amount of people on it....

well it depends on the time of day.

Halo 2 Unmodded: average probably 40-70 host servers during daytime hours.

Halo 1: usually about 5-10 host servers on all the time

Halo Modded in any form: xbc supports seperate rooms for Mimesis maps, mods and what not. it's usually pretty barren in those parts, but i'd say there's usually 1-5 host servers running at daytime hours.

note i said "host servers". that isn't the number of potential players online, just the amount of servers available to play on. there could be 16 people in every server, or whatever.

Well, I use connect, b/c its superior to xlink, in that as long as u can forward your ports (Argon), you can talk in game ALWAYS, join ALL servers. I have xlink as well, but i find there to be many many more servers and players on xbc. On XBC, there are a few of us modders always in a room. Always happy to have more. Heres something we did the other night http://useruploads.mythica.org/view/outskirts-2.wmv. We did have 14 players at one point, but this is the game that got captured :/ FYI-its a map my friends and I are making, and there will be another test on Sat nite 7 PM eastern, if anyone is interested, PM me here or on xbc [-Frankie-]

If you can mod halo2, you can forward your ports (Argon). The ports are 8602 TCP and UDP forwarded to your pc local IP#. For help on doing this go to http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm, find the router make and model youhave, then find XBConnect and there will be a tutorial with pictures!! Hope this helps.

I know last time I played, the lag was absolutely unbearable. In the vid you sent, it looked...so smooth. Sure a frame skip here or there, but nice none the less. On this fort porwarding thing, (I'm at school right now) I have a Linksys, but don't konw model # off my head, but fi I forward the ports...it won't affect anything? Because I play live on my 360 and use the old xbox to mod.

no it wont effect ur ability to connect live at all. I have both live and xbc, and i never have to change anything. As far as terrible lag on xbc, you blame that on a poor host, who doesnt understand the ability of his upload, and the fact that a higher ping = more lag. In order to host a 16 xbox game on xbc with no lag, the required upload is around 1500/1600 Kbps. When you are using xbc, try to keep your ping down by closing all internet applications such aas MSN messenger, AIM, Limewire, Torrents, etc. The lower your ping is, means you will have a better game. I have 250 Kbps upload, so therefore, on XBC, I can onlyu host 2-3 xboxes. If you have 700-800 Kbps upload, then you can host 8-9 xboxs. Online gaming is ALL ABOUT UPLOAD, and everyone should keep that in mind, when thiking about upgrading their internet service. The server we used in that game video, has 5 MEG (WOW) upload, and can host 16 xboxs all the time, from overseas, etc. Therefor, the greater the upload you have, the greater your ability to host. I have seen guys living in college dorms, and hosting, (remeber that institutions like a school have an internet bill every month the size of most peoples mortgage) that can host 4 games of 16 simoultaneously with no lag!!

1500-1600? Are you nuts? I have InsightBB at my house, and I could run an IE window, have someone on my house's server use an IE window, and host a 16-player game with no lag (TS on Zanzibar it was, I believe). My connection is a 1Mbit. Download speeds hit around 900-950k, and upload speeds... somewhere around 650-750.

1st of all, i have no clue wut insightbb is. second of all that was possible b4 the updates. Now, if u wanna host 16 u need a MINIMUM of 1500^. My brother has 1000 ^, and he can host 8-9 xboxs. PcTrojan has 1400^, and he can host 13-14 xboxs. Malkybean has 1800^, and he hosts 16 all the time, with one or two overseas. Myhouse has 1200^, and he hosts 11-12 xboxs. Oldmanpops used to have 1500^, and he could 14-15 xboxs, now he has 5000^, so he has no problems. Mad2max has 1400^ and hew can host 13-14 xboxs. Latinopimpin has 2000^, and him and his brother, hosting 2 games from 2 different xboxs simoultaneously, can host 18-20 xboxs. johnnys has 1200^ and he can host 11-12 xboxs. I can keep naming more, but i dont feel I have to. If you look on the help section for xbc, you will see that they recommend 90 Kbps per hosted xbox for halo 2. So no, you cant host 16 ppl with 1 meg. Sorry about that.

I play on xbc 5-6 times a week, so i know you cant do what you think you can do :(

XBC-Requiem, my friend, your connection sucks. There's no way you can host 16ppl on a 1Megabit connection...
1mbit=1024kbits=128kB/s (1024 / 8 ) That's a 128KB connection.
