Halo 2 doesnt work

I dont where and if i can post this but i cant get my halo 2 to run off of the cd or the hard drive. It goes to the start menu and when i press start it freezes on both. Can anyone help me so i can test some some mods i made because im tired of waiting for something most likely so simple. I already tried deleting and putting a fresh copy of halo on my hard drives.
