nOOb modder needs help with origional maps

ok i copyed my halo 2 to my hard drive so i can acsecc all the maps and mess, only problem is the mods i put on them dont work possibale reasons:
1.every time i apply a mod and try to sign it it wont let me.
2.im not doing it right.
3.im just retarted.
like it will load the map but ther wont be a mod on it someone help!
