Maximum visual distance?

Post by ryan_mckenzie »

I wanted to hear some opinions of what the maximum visual distance in halo CE was. The map me and my friend want to make will be very large, but still the correct size to always see the map. Any suggestions on what size it should be? I was going to say 3km squared.

Not sure but you could find out by experiment.

Just make a big ass box and see how far you can look.

Wasn't there something recently (ok, so a few years ago) released that gave you the distance and fixed it, so you could look farther?

Yeah, it was mad by Fleet Admiral Bacon, it was a clipping distance fixer. (It was pretty recent, maybe a year ago?)

ooh that's brilliant. So you can actually look further :D
Do you think there is any way to somehow include this program into your map, so that the person playing, wouldn't have to download it seperatly, and then press "M"?

Actually, without any fog, you could see forever, you can't see forever sometimes cause of portalling.

That's why it work well on Coldsnap, unless you disable the fog.

doesn't this lag your computer a bit? doesn't portalling help make the most of processisng?

FleetAdmiralBacon just copied my tutorial. The clipping distance in Halo is a boolean value. His app just sets it to 0...you can also do that in devmode.

I forgot the actual line to turn off the fog but it's very easy to include that into a map via scripting.

Should be under debug_ or rasterizer_
