well, ive been modding HaloPc now for about a year publicly and have 3 mods been voted outstanding in thoes forums so i want to try something new. Ive gone though the utilities sections and tuts section for CE here and just wanted to know..

is there anything specific im going to need to begin modding CE? any tips, tricks or whatnot? im by no means a noob >_> but times change since thoes pinned topics so i just want to make sure im up to date. im getting hek now and found some package with kornmans stuff in it. any advise would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if you know this but if you put ai in your map you have to make sure they don't run out of ammo by making their weapons infinite or they'll sit there and do nothing

Lol, add me on xfire again :p. You should learn how ce works, so you won't be confused later. Like, the difference between the tags and data folder, and the fact that tool isn't broken XD.

Tool Setup: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=2473
Once setup, type tool (that and only that) and it will tell you the commands.

Get to know the data and tags folders and how they work. Not that hard.

For making maps and/or other things such as weapons and scenery, I strongly suggest 3ds Max, or if unable to get that, there is the less awesome gmax.

There are a 100 of tips and tricks I gathered and learned throughout the years.

HEK+ is always nice to have. Ask me on xfire if you have any questions, and btw, xfire always mislabels my status, it always says afk when I'm not, so just mesage me no matter what. One more thing:
im by no means a noob >_>
you prolly will be now that you switched to ce :P

I switched when i was a very advanced pc modder and it took me like 20 minutes to figure out how to swap a projectile >_>
now ive be CEing (that's a verb now?) for a little while and I've still only scratched the surface. Good luck!

I made the change too.
And I failed miserably.

I can't even extract the map tags. I wanted to add AI to start off and I'm following this tutorial: http://forums.halomods.com/viewtopic.php?t=55566

I'm stuck at the (Step 2) 'In the explorer select all the directories. Now right click and choose extract to, and clcik the three dots next to the extraction folder box, now find the tags folder in the CE folder you made earlier and click ok.'

I can't find the 'explorer', and how can I select all directories. Can anyone tell me where I click to find the explorer? ? And this is prob the easiest question asked on CE forums yet.

The explorer is where all the folders that pertain to certain tags show...I don't have HEK+ off hand but I know it's right in the middle area. Just select all those folders and on the right side should be the ... button it speaks of.

No... Still not working. Can't find it anywhere. This is what it looks like when I go open a map (How can I possibly do that wrong? File>Open)

...CE is annoying me now.

Are you blind or do you suffer from a brain retardation?

Look on the bottom left side....expand the tree? I'm genius.

Shut up genius.
I fixed the prob, and the left part where you are telling me to look does expand but you can't select multiple things in there. Thats the 'Map' explorer. Expanding the tree does not show what I was looking for. I was looking for the 'Explorer' explorer, which was a completely different thing. It did not have any extracting options anywhere.
I just closed every window in HEK+, and opened a map, resetting everything.

Maybe you should get a feel for creating content for CE before you start making modifications to existing maps; especially ones that have been done before and contribute nothing.

Do you even know how to use Tool? Guerilla? Sapien? Try making your own map first, following the tutorials, so you can get a feel for the processes of content creation. Creating maps for CE is a completely different ballgame from modding PC.

Also, don't even think of releasing any of your first few maps or mods. They will suck and nobody will play them; that is a fact.

Thank you for that. It is obviously my very first time modding Halo, so that info was very valuable. I had no clue that most new mods released by beginners are flamed to hell. It is not like I have any common sense.

And wouldn't it be easier to modify maps rather than create your own content? Like in PC, its much easier to meta swap than PMI.
Amazingly, I did not just run here on the first sign of trouble, and I'm pretty clear on using HEK.

Thank you for your meaningful comment.

Sorry. I'm used to all of the kids asking how to rip stuff into other maps so they can further pollute Halomaps with bloodgulch "mods" containing broken crap ripped from old CMT betas. Force of habit, and I apologize.

Since you've made it clear that you're not a lolznub and can think for yourself, then yes.

From that screenshot of your HEK+, what the hell happened to your window layout? Compared to mine, which isn't too far from the default, your tag properties and extraction queue are too friggin' big, and there's no room for the tag list to display. If you just move the left border containing the Queue and Properties modules over to the right some, you should see your tag list.

It is the default. I fixed mine, but genius is not gonna tell how.

Well. thanks anyway.
For future users:
Just close all windows in HEK+, open a map, and everything gets reset. Which fixes the problem.
