Map making

OK, I've never done anything like this before, so I will post my procedure, see if you can find the problem.

Made a black and white drawing in paint showing where canyons will be.

created a folder in data/levels called box, and inside that, a folder called models.

opened gmax and made a box, 20,000 x 20,000 x 5,000 and named it sky box

converted it to editable mesh, selected the whole thing, hit 'flip'

selected all but the bottom plane and hit HIDE

selected the bottom plane and hit displace, then selected my JPEG that i made in paint

set strength to 1000, canyons form.

unhide all

select the sky, gave it material ID of 1, went to material editor, new, standerd, named it +sky, turned the diffuse blue. hit apply

selected all but the sky and gave it material ID of 2

went to material editor, made a new standard, changed the diffuse to bitmap and found data\levels\test\dangercanyon\danger_canyon_ground

selected it and copied its name. named the new material danger_canyon_ground

hit the blue box, the black arrow, then apply

selected all but the sky and went to UVW wrap, and tweaked it until it looked right

created a new box outside the model and named it 'frame'

selected the link tool and dragged a line from the ap to the frame

saved it to my models folder

ran the chimp script, checked listener window, and hit export halo structure

loaded for a while then gmax stopped responding....

downloaded bluestreak, ran it and tells me something about the script being too big and that i shoud adjust it in options, then that my map failed

any advice?
either on the map-making or the exporting i did something wrong, so if you spot it post here.
You can give me directions on using either of the exporters, i have both

i may post pics tonight

Thanks so much in advance

P.S. Is the map too big?

Out if memory means you did something wrong.

Frame box.... try retexturing cause I think if you miss a spot or you do the UV's wrong it gives you an error.

for reference, i didn't do anything wrong, chimp was just taking so long i though it had frozen. I got the BSP ingame fine. Hurray, now to make something decent!

so for people wanting to make maps, the above procedure worked

it's never worked for me. it always says out of memory, even on the same map that chimp exported and it worked

Hm, well, I got bluestreak to work, Also, do you need the frame box? I'm not sure, but lot's of tutorials for Gmax don't show making the frame.

Yeah, I figured that out. Hm, theonly thing I wonder now, is if I can have more one skybox in a level, Like, four boxes, and link them all to the reference frame. Because, I am thinking of an idea for a new map.
