I posted about this a while ago and then just sorta gave up, and instead of bumping the topic up to try and get an answer and probably getting yelled at, i decided to just post a new topic. Sorry about that.
I re-tried to play CE, and when i try to join a game online, it says there was 'trouble contacting the gamespy server' immediatly, and when i try to host a game on LAN, it says that i could not join game, which makes NO sense to me since im trying to host a game, but oh well. Can anyone give me some help with this please? i'd greatly appreciate that.

That used to happen to me. First...
1. Make sure you're connected to the internet. You probably are, so the most likely cause of this is:
You have Windows Live OneCare. When you start Halo after installing this, it blocks it from getting to the internet, so halo displays that error message.
Open OneCare, and go to onecare settings. Go to the firewall tab and press "allowed programs" or whatever it is. It's the first button.
Scroll down to H and you'll see halo. Check the "allowed" box (so it's allowed to access the internet.) Also check allowed for gamespy arcade, if it's on there, for good measure.
It should work now. Except for me, when that happened, I pressed the windows key to minimize halo, and there was a box that popped up that said do you want to allow "halo" to access the internet. I pressed allow but I don't know, that might not happen for you. Try it first though.

I actually don't think i have that, i've never seen it on the computer running. It sounds like it's an anti-virus/firewall/all the other stuff kind of program.
I have the AOL security center, and already allowed CE through the firewall. Im not sure whether or not i allowed gamespy arcade, and i dont think i did (thats prolly the only thing i didn't allow, i went through halo ce, the dedicated server program, the auto updater, etc.).
But im not home right now so i cant check and make sure. I'll find out when i do get home, and thanks.

he means the default firewall. go to control panel. security center. windows firewall put it on well on and go to exception and go add halo ce/halo pc whatever you want and click ok.

but i don't even run my default firewall, i have it set to 'off', the only one i use is the AOL one, so that shouldn't be blocking it. i'll try anyway to see if that'll work.
<EDIT>
Ok, now i can join games online, but can't host games, does halo not like me?
